Mesajul profeției din acest capitol este rostit împotriva Egiptului. Conducători evrei erau tentați să încheie alianțe cu Egiptul în intenția de a face față amenințării Asiriei. Indiferent în cine sau în ce își pun oamenii încrederea în loc de Dumnezeu se va întoarce împotriva lor și-i va distruge.

Primele zece versete ale prezentului capitol descriu neajutorarea Egiptului înaintea lui Dumnezeu. Religia Egiptului (vers. 1-5), starea lui materială (5-10) și înțelepciunea lui nu vor să-l apere nici împotriva Asiriei și nici împotriva pedepsei divine: “Prorocie împotriva Egiptului: Iată, Domnul călărește pe un nor repede și vine în Egipt. Idolii Egiptului tremură înaintea Lui și li se îndoaie inima egiptenilor în ei.“ (vers. 1)

Ceea ce este impresionant este faptul că a doua parte a capitolului, versetele 16-25, spun că Egiptul va deveni un închinător al lui Dumnezeu: ,,Tot în vremea aceea va fi un altar pentru Domnul în țara Egiptului și la hotar va fi un stâlp de aducere aminte pentru Domnul. Acesta va fi pentru Domnul oștirilor un semn și o mărturie în țara Egiptului. Ei vor striga către Domnul din pricina asupritorilor, și El le va trimite un mântuitor și un apărător, care să-i izbăvească. Atunci, Domnul Se va descoperi egiptenilor, și egiptenii vor cunoaște pe Domnul în ziua aceea. Vor aduce jertfe și daruri de mâncare, vor face juruințe Domnului și le vor împlini. În acest pasaj, mesajul profetului trece de la judecată la promisiune de restaurare.” (vers. 19-21)

Promisiunea acestei restaurări nu va fi pentru timpul prezent, ci pentru vremea sfârșitului. Ideea aceasta este introdusă de expresia ,,în ziua aceea” care se repetă de cinci ori (vers. 16, 18, 19, 23 și 24).

Gândindu-ne la perspectiva restaurării Neamurilor prin Cristos, suntem copleșiți de dragostea și bunătatea lui Dumnezeu față de oamenii de pe pământ. Și noi am fost restaurați prin Cristos, prin bunătatea și dragostea lui Dumnezeu care Și-a trimis Fiul să moară pe cruce în locul tuturor oamenilor. Acum înțelegem mai bine valoarea, importanța și urgența evanghelizării oamenilor, a tuturor oamenilor. Aceasta este treaba Bisericii: să ducă mesajul iertării prin Cristos tuturor oamenilor.  Și după cum mântuirea este necesară și urgentă pentru noi, ea este la fel de necesară și de urgentă pentru toți cei opt miliarde de oameni care trăiesc pe pământ.

Să ne rugăm pentru mântuirea nemântuiților și pentru sfințirea și rodirea mântuiților.

Friday, December 6, 2024 – Isaiah 19:1-25

The message of the prophecy in this chapter is delivered against Egypt. Jewish leaders were tempted to form alliances with Egypt in an attempt to withstand the Assyrian threat. Regardless of who or what people put their trust in instead of God, this action will turn against them and destroy them.

The first ten verses of this chapter describe Egypt's helplessness before God. Egypt's religion (verses 1-5), material condition (verses 5-10), and wisdom would not protect it, neither from Assyria nor from divine punishment: “A prophecy against Egypt: See, the Lord rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before Him, and the hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear.” (verse 1)

What is remarkable is that the second part of the chapter, verses 16-25, states that Egypt would become a worshiper of God: “In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the Lord at its border. It will be a sign and witness to the Lord Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, He will send them a savior and defender, and He will rescue them. So the Lord will make Himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the Lord. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the Lord and keep them. In this passage, the prophet’s message shifts from judgment to the promise of restoration.” (verses 19-21)

The promise of this restoration is not for the present time but for the end times. This idea is introduced by the expression “in that day,” which is repeated five times (verses 16, 18, 19, 23, and 24).

Reflecting on the perspective of the restoration of the nations through Christ, we are overwhelmed by God's love and goodness toward the people of the earth. We too have been restored through Christ, through the kindness and love of God, who sent His Son to die on the cross in the place of all people. We now better understand the value, importance, and urgency of evangelizing people—everyone. This is the Church’s task: to bring the message of forgiveness through Christ to all people. And just as salvation is necessary and urgent for us, it is equally necessary and urgent for all eight billion people living on earth.

Let us pray for the salvation of the unsaved and for the sanctification and fruitfulness of the saved.
