Psalmul 59 se aseamănă cu psalmi 56, 57 și 58, fiind o rugăciune pentru scăparea dintr-un pericol foarte mare. Este impresionant faptul că David a hotărât să scrie o cântare numită ,,O cântare de laudă a lui David, făcută când a trimis Saul să-i împresoare casa ca să-l omoare.” Această cântare de laudă a fost dată mai marelui cântăreților și a devenit parte din repertoriul cântărilor care se cântau în Casa lui Dumnezeu.

Psalmul de față explică împrejurarea în care Saul a atacat casa lui David, însă Mical l-a ajutat să scape, fugind pe fereastră: ,,Războiul urma înainte. David a mers împotriva filistenilor şi s-a bătut cu ei, le-a pricinuit o mare înfrângere şi au fugit dinaintea lui. Atunci, duhul cel rău, trimis de Domnul, a venit peste Saul, care şedea în casă cu suliţa în mână. David cânta, şi Saul a vrut să-l pironească cu suliţa de perete. Dar David s-a ferit de el, şi Saul a lovit cu suliţa în perete. David a fugit şi a scăpat noaptea. Saul a trimis nişte oameni acasă la David ca să-l pândească şi să-l omoare dimineaţa. Dar Mical, nevasta lui David, i-a dat de ştire şi i-a zis: „Dacă nu fugi în noaptea aceasta, mâine vei fi omorât.” Ea l-a coborât pe fereastră şi David a plecat şi a fugit. Aşa a scăpat.” (1 Samuel 19:8-12)

Psalmul 59 are două părți:

1.     Strigătul lui David după ajutorul lui Dumnezeu (vers. 1-10): ,,Dumnezeule, scapă-mă de vrăjmaşii mei, ocroteşte-mă de potrivnicii mei! Scapă-mă de răufăcători, izbăveşte-mă de oamenii setoşi de sânge! Căci iată-i că stau la pândă să-mi ia viaţa; nişte oameni porniţi la rău urzesc lucruri rele împotriva mea, fără să fiu vinovat, fără să fi păcătuit, Doamne! Cu toată nevinovăţia mea, ei aleargă, se pregătesc: trezeşte-Te, ieşi înaintea mea şi priveşte! Cererea lui David adresata lui Dumnezeu pentru a-i pedepsi pe oamenii rai care il urmeareau sa-l ucida” (vers. 11-17).

2.     Cererea lui David adresată lui Dumnezeu pentru a scăpa de oamenii răi care-l urmăreau să-l ucidă (vers. 11-17): ,,Nu-i ucide, ca să nu uite lucrul acesta poporul meu, ci fă-i să pribegească, prin puterea Ta, şi doboară-i, Doamne, Scutul nostru! Gura lor păcătuieşte la fiecare vorbă care le iese de pe buze: să se prindă în însăşi mândria lor, căci nu spun decât blesteme şi minciuni!” (vers. 11-12).

Privind la experiența dramatică a lui David care s-a întins pe o perioadă de mulți ani, nu mai îndrăznim să ne plângem de ,,micile” noastre nemulțumiri. În ciuda tragediei prin care a trecut, David a refuzat să se răzbune pe Saul, în cele două împrejurări când Dumnezeu l-a dat în mâna lui: ,,Şi a zis oamenilor săi: „Să mă ferească Domnul să fac împotriva domnului meu, care este unsul Domnului, o aşa faptă ca să pun mâna pe el! Căci el este unsul Domnului.” (1 Samuel 24:6)

,,Dar David a zis lui Abişai: „Nu-l omorî! Căci cine ar putea pune mâna pe unsul Domnului şi să rămână nepedepsit?” ,,Vezi acum cu ochii tăi că Domnul te dăduse astăzi în mâinile mele în peşteră. Oamenii mei mă îndemnau să te omor, dar te-am cruţat şi am zis: ‘Nu voi pune mâna pe domnul meu, căci este unsul Domnului. Să mă ferească Domnul să pun mâna pe unsul Domnului! Ia numai suliţa de la căpătâiul lui, urciorul cu apă şi să plecăm.” (1 Samuel 26:9-11)

Stând în fața Domnului, ne vom ruga să renunțăm la inutila noastră îngrijorare și frică și în toate necazurile noastre să ne încredem doar în Dumnezeu.

Tuesday, June 25, 2024 – Psalm 59:1-17

Psalm 59 is similar to Psalms 56, 57, and 58, as a prayer for deliverance from great danger. It is remarkable that David decided to write a song titled “A Song of Praise of David, made when Saul had sent men to watch David’s house in order to kill him.” This song of praise was given to the chief musician and became part of the repertoire of songs that were sung in the House of God.

The present Psalm explains the circumstance in which Saul attacked David's house, but Michal helped him escape by fleeing through the window: “The battle was ongoing. David fought against the Philistines, inflicted a great defeat on them, and they fled from him. Then, the evil spirit from the Lord came upon Saul, who was sitting in his house with his spear in hand. David was playing the harp, and Saul tried to pin him to the wall with the spear. But David eluded him, and Saul struck the wall with the spear. David fled and escaped that night. Saul sent men to David's house to watch him and to kill him in the morning. But Michal, David's wife, told him, 'If you do not escape tonight, you will be killed tomorrow.' She let him down through a window, and David left and fled. Thus he escaped.” (1 Samuel 19:8-12)

Psalm 59 has two parts:

1.     David's cry for God's help (verses 1-10): “Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me. Deliver me from evildoers and save me from bloodthirsty men. For behold, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men stir up strife against me, and for no transgression or sin of mine, O Lord! For no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Awake, come to meet me, and see! David's plea to God to punish the wicked men pursuing him to kill him” (verses 11-17).

2.     David's plea to God to help hime escape from the wicked men pursuing him to kill him (verses 11-17): “Do not kill them, lest my people forget; make them wander by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our Shield! Their mouths sin with every word from their lips; let them be caught in their pride, for they utter curses and lies!” (verses 11-12).

Reflecting on David's dramatic experience that spanned many years, we dare not complain about our “minor” grievances. Despite the tragedy he went through, David refused to take revenge on Saul, on the two occasions when God delivered Saul into his hands: “And he said to his men, 'The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord's anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord's anointed.' (1 Samuel 24:6)

“But David said to Abishai, 'Do not destroy him; for who can lay his hand on the Lord's anointed and be guiltless?' 'See now that the Lord has delivered you today into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you, and said, 'I will not put out my hand against my lord, for he is the Lord's anointed. May the Lord be my witness that I will not put out my hand against the Lord's anointed! Take now the spear at his head, and the water jug, and let us go.'” (1 Samuel 26:9-11)

Standing before the Lord, we pray for Him to help us give up our futile worry and fear, and in all our troubles to trust only in God.
