Miercuri, 9 august 2023, Judecători 8:1-35 – Diplomația relațiilor și distrugerea dușmanilor

Seminția lui Efraim l-a criticat pe Ghedeon fiindcă nu a fost chemată de la început să lupte alături de el, însă răspunsul lui blând și înțelept a potolit spiritele, evitând un război fratricid.

Efraimiții au mai avut un astfel de conflict cu Iefta în capitolul 12 pe același subiect. Iefta, însă le-a vorbit cu asprime și a pornit un război între Eframiți și Galaadiți. Asprimea și lipsa de tact și blândețe a lui Iefta a ucis atunci 42.000 de Efraimiți. Ghedeon însă a fost călăuzit de Duhul Domnului și nu de dorința de a se impune. În felul acesta au rămas în pace și în viață. Ambiția care vine din fire, absența flexibilității și a umilinței care cedează, lipsa unui duh împăciuitor ucid și seamănă moartea între cei din același popor. În loc să se lupte cu dușmanii, frații s-au omorât între ei.

Este impresionant faptul că, la cererea evreilor, Ghedeon a refuzat să devină regele lor (v. 22-23). Adevărul este că Dumnezeu l-a trimis să izbăvească Israelul de Madianiți, nu să devină regele evreilor. Ghedeon a refuzat să domnească peste Israel și să întemeieze o dinastie, afirmând conducerea teocratică – ,,Domnul va domni peste voi”. Țara a avut pace 40 de ani în timpul vieții lui Ghedeon.

În rugăciunea acestei dimineți vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru pacea din suflet, din familie, din biserică și din țară. ,,Ferice de cei împăciuitori, că ei vor fi chemați fii ai lui Dumnezeu” (Matei 5:9). Continuând rugăciunea, vom cere Domnului înțelepciunea de a evita conflictele chiar și cu riscul de a renunța la dreptatea personală. Din perspectiva Împărăției cerurilor, dreptatea ,,noastră” este mai importantă decât dreptatea ,,mea”. În contextul conflictelor fratricide, al conflictelor de familie, pacea este mai folositoare decât dreptatea. Dacă renunțarea la dreptatea ,,mea” va produce pacea ,,noastră”, atunci trebuie să recunoaștem că avem de-a face cu un fiu de Dumnezeu.

Wednesday, August 9, 2023: Judges 8:1-35 – The Diplomacy of Relations and the Destruction of Enemies

The tribe of Ephraim criticized Gideon because they were not called from the beginning to fight alongside him. However, his gentle and wise response calmed the spirits, avoiding a fratricidal war.

The Ephraimites had such a conflict with Jephthah in Chapter 12 on the same subject. Jephthah, however, spoke harshly to them and started a war between the Ephraimites and the Gileadites. Jephthah's harshness and lack of tact and gentleness killed 42,000 Ephraimites at that time. However, Gideon was guided by the Spirit of the Lord and not by the desire to impose himself. In this way, they remained at peace and alive. Ambition that comes from nature, the absence of flexibility and the humility that is diminished, the lack of a conciliatory spirit, all kill and sow death among the people of the same nation. Instead of fighting with enemies, the brothers killed each other.

It is impressive that, at the request of the Jews, Gideon refused to become their king (v. 22-23). The truth is that God sent him to deliver Israel from the Midianites, not to become the king of the Jews. Gideon refused to rule over Israel and establish a dynasty, affirming theocratic leadership – “The Lord will rule over you.” The country had peace for 40 years during Gideon's lifetime.

In this morning's prayer, we will thank God for peace in our soul, family, church, and country. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9). Continuing our prayer, we will ask the Lord for the wisdom to avoid conflicts even at the risk of giving up personal justice. From the perspective of the Kingdom of Heaven, “our” justice is more important than “my” justice. In the context of fratricidal conflicts, family conflicts, peace is more useful than justice. If giving up “my” justice will produce “our” peace, then we must recognize that we are dealing with a child of God.
