Vineri, 8 martie 2024: Estera 2:1-23 – Estera ajunge regină

Dupǎ ce s-a potilit mânia regelui, sfetnicii l-au sfǎtuit sǎ-şi aleagǎ o soție în locul lui Vasti, dintre fetele cele mai frumoase din țarǎ. Printre fetele care au câștigat concursul de frumusețe și au fost invitate la palat a fost și Estera, nepoata lui Mardoheu. Cel mai probabil, Chiș beniamitul, străbunicul lui Mardoheu, fusese deportat din Iuda în anul 587 î. Cr., cu aproximativ 110 de ani înainte. În acel an Nebucadnețar cucerise Ierusalimul.

În anul de pregătire pentru a intra la împărat, Estera a devenit foarte populară în grupul celorlalte tinere candidate la poziția de regină. Când i-a venit vremea, Estera, verișoara lui Mardoheu, a intrat la împărat. Lui i s-a lipit inima de ea și a ales-o împărăteasă în locul lui Vasti.

În timp ce Mardoheu stătea la poartă, semn că avea un rol în departamentul administrativ al împărăției, a auzit că Bigtan și Teres, doi gardieni care păzeau intrarea la împărat, au complotat împotriva lui. Mardoheu a informat-o pe Estera și aceasta i-a spus împăratului. Cei doi gardieni au fost spânzurați de un lemn.

Cronicarul cancelariei regelui a menționat în cronicile regale despre fapta bravă a lui Mardoheu care a salvat viața împăratului – încă un exemplu care vine în sprijinul teoriei potrivit căreia omul trăiește câte zile are rânduite de Dumnezeu. Cei doi păzitori aveau intenția să-l asasineze, însă Dumnezeu îl pregătise pe Ahașveroș să o ia de soție pe Estera și în viitor să salveze națiunea israeliană de la epurare etnică. Numărul zilelor omului sunt stabilite de Dumnezeu. Slavă lui Dumnezeu! Nu putem hotărî lungimea vieții noastre, dar putem hotărî calitatea și rodul acesteia, adică sfințenia și slujirea. Să ne rugăm intens și continuu pentru aceste două mari imperative.

Friday, March 8, 2024: Esther 2:1-23 – Esther Becomes Queen

After the king’s anger had subsided, his advisers suggested he choose a wife to replace Vashti from among the beautiful young women of the country, who would be brought to him for this purpose. Among the girls who won the beauty contest and were invited to the palace was Esther, Mordecai’s niece. Very likely, Kish the Benjamite, Mordecai’s great-grandfather, had been deported from Judah in the year 587 BC, about 110 years earlier. In that year, Nebuchadnezzar had conquered Jerusalem.

In the year of preparation to go to the king, Esther became very popular among the other young women candidates for the queen’s position. When her time came, Esther, Mordecai’s cousin, went to see the king. His heart was drawn to her, and he chose her as queen instead of Vashti.

While Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, a sign that he had a role in the administrative department of the kingdom, he overheard Bigthan and Teresh, two guards who were guarding the entrance to the king, plotting against him. Mordecai informed Esther, and she told the king. The two guards were hanged on gallows.

The royal chancellery’s chronicler mentioned in the royal chronicles Mordecai’s brave deed that saved the king’s life – another example supporting the theory that a person lives as many days as God has ordained for them. The two guards intended to assassinate him, but God had prepared Ahasuerus to take Esther as his wife and in the future to save the Jewish nation from ethnic cleansing. The number of a person’s days is determined by God. Glory to God! We cannot decide the length of our lives, but we can decide their quality and yield, namely holiness and service. Let us pray intensely and continually for these two great imperatives.
