Joi, 8 iunie 2023, Deuteronom 4:1-43 – Scopul Legii

Dumnezeu cere Israelului să păzească cu responsabilitate legile și poruncile primite la Sinai pentru a se bucura de viață și de țara în care urmau să intre. Dumnezeu a atenționat poporul să nu adauge și să nu scoată nicio lege. Dumnezeu S-a referit la nefericitul incident de la Baal-Peor, unde au murit 24.000 de oameni (Numeri 25:1-9).

În consecință, Dumnezeu avertizează poporul cu privire la idolatrie. Cartea Deuteronom subliniază faptul că educarea copiilor aparține părinților, nu preoților sau a altor conducători religioși (v. 9-10; 11:19; 31:13; 32:46). De asemenea, Dumnezeu poruncește oamenilor să nu uite legile și poruncile date și să le transmită copiilor lor.

Un alt lucru cerut insistent de Dumnezeu evreilor a fost teama de Domnul. În Vechiul Testament teama de Domnul înseamnă mai mult decât uimire sau reverență. Teama de Domnul înseamnă să fii așa de conștient de puritatea și omnipotența lui Dumnezeu, încât să-ți fie frică să nu-l asculți. Dumnezeu a vrut ca poporul să se teamă de Domnul ca de o Persoană care este spirituală. ,,Nu ați văzut niciun chip, ați auzit doar un glas,” spunea Dumnezeu (v. 15). Egiptul în care evreii au trăit 430 de ani a avut un sistem religios idolatru foarte complex. De aceea se menționează de peste 20 de ori în Deuteronom că ,,Israelul a fost scos din Egipt”.

Este timpul să ne rugăm Domnului, mulțumindu-I pentru legile și poruncile Sale care creionează în mintea oamenilor voia Sa cea bună, plăcută și desăvârșită. Apoi, vom cere Domnului puterea să trăim prin credință, fără a vedea vreun chip vizibil, și să-L cunoaștem pe Dumnezeu nu doar la nivel intelectual, ci și experimental.

God asks Israel to responsibly guard the laws and commands received at Sinai in order to enjoy life and the land they were to enter. God warned the people not to add or remove any law. God referred to the unfortunate incident at Baal-Peor, where 24,000 people died (Numbers 25:1-9).

Consequently, God warns the people about idolatry. The Book of Deuteronomy emphasizes that the responsibility of educating children belongs to the parents, not to priests or other religious leaders (v. 9-10; 11:19; 31:13; 32:46). Moreover, God commands people not to forget the laws and commands given and to pass them on to their children.

Another thing God insistently asked of the Jews was fear of the Lord. In the Old Testament, the fear of the Lord means more than awe or reverence. Fear of the Lord means being so aware of God's purity and omnipotence that you are afraid not to obey Him. God wanted the people to fear the Lord as a Spiritual Person. “You have seen no form; you have only heard a voice,” God said (v. 15). The Egypt in which the Jews lived for 430 years had a very complex idolatrous religious system. That is why it is mentioned over 20 times in Deuteronomy that “Israel was brought out of Egypt.”

It is time to pray to the Lord, thanking Him for His laws and commands that outline His good, pleasing, and perfect will in the minds of men. Then, we will ask the Lord for the strength we need to live by faith, without seeing any visible form, and to know God not only at an intellectual level but also to experience Him.
