Duminică, 8 ianuarie, Geneza 6:1-22 – Ascultare prin construcția corabiei

Prima jumătate a capitolului 6 remarcă prezența fiilor lui Dumnezeu și a fetelor oamenilor în perioada înmulțirii oamenilor pe pământ. Sunt cel puțin două interpretări cu privire la aceste două categorii de ființe. Prima dintre ele explică faptul că fiii lui Dumnezeu sunt urmașii lui Set, iar fiicele oamenilor sunt urmașele lui Cain. Cea de-a doua interpretare este mai veche și spune că fiii lui Dumnezeu sunt îngeri. Uriașii care erau pe pământ în perioada aceea erau copiii rezultați din căsătoriile ,,îngeri-femei”.

Mai important decât acest aspect este fenomenul expandării păcatului în viețile și relațiile oamenilor. Oamenii erau pe deplin compromiși din punct de vedere spiritual și moral, iar Dumnezeu a hotărât să distrugă atât oamenii, cât și animalele de pe pământ. Repulsia Lui față de păcat este atât de mare, încât alege o decizie capitală. Păcatul ofensează sfințenia și justiția lui Dumnezeu.

Dacă prima parte a capitolului identifică prezența și intensitatea păcatului pe pământ, a doua parte pronunță sentința pedepsei capitale pentru oameni și animale. Noe și familia lui ,,au căpătat milă înaintea Domnului” (Gen. 6:8). Acestea sunt rădăcinile principiului evocat în Noul Testament: ,,mila biruiește judecata” (Iacov 2:13b). Mila biruiește judecata doar atunci când păcatul este mărturisit și părăsit. Dumnezeu nu iartă oamenii care intenționează să continue să păcătuiască. Noe este dovada capacității de a trăi în puritate într-un context social depravat. Înfrânarea de la păcat și sfințirea vieții este o alegere pe care Dumnezeu o susține și o împuternicește. Omul nu poate trăi în sfințenie fără implicarea și ajutorul lui Dumnezeu, însă nici Dumnezeu nu sfințește oameni care aleg să trăiască în păcat.

Noe, alături de membrii familiei lui, devin misionarii locuitorilor pământului, însă nici măcar unul dintre aceștia nu alege să renunțe la viața de păcat. Dumnezeu îi descoperă lui Noe planul Său de înnoire a vieții umane și animale pe pământ, face un legământ cu el și familia lui și îi poruncește să construiască corabia salvării.

În rugăciunea de astăzi Îi vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru soluția nemeritată a salvării. Vom continua rugăciunea implorând ajutorul Său pentru a trăi în sfințenie..

Sunday, January 8: Genesis 6:1-22 – Obedience by Building the Ark

            The first half of chapter 6 mentions the presence of the sons of God and the daughters of men in the time when the number of people on Earth was multiplying. There are at least two interpretations regarding these two types of beings. The first explains that the sons of God were the descendants of Seth and the daughters of men were the descendants of Cain. The second interpretation is older and says that the sons of God were angels. The giants that were in the land in that time were the children that resulted in the marriages of “angels-women”

            More important than this aspect is the phenomenon of the expansion of sin in the lives and relationships of the people at that time. People were completely compromised from the spiritual and moral point of view, and God chose to destroy both people as well as the animals on the earth. His repulsion to sin is so great, that He makes a capital decision. Sin offends God’s holiness and justice.

            If the first part of the chapter identifies the presence and intensity of sin on the earth, the second part declares the capital sentence for both people and animals. Noah and his family “found favor in the eyes of the Lord” (Gen. 6:8). These are the roots of the principles evoked in the New Testament: “mercy triumphs over judgement” (James 2:13b). Mercy triumphs judgement only when sin is confessed and abandoned. God does not forgive people who intend to continue sinning. Noah is the evidence of the ability to live in purity in the context of a depraved society. Restraint from sin and the sanctification of ones’ life is a choice that God sustains and strengthens. Man cannot live in holiness without God’s implication and His help, but neither does God sanctify people who choose to live in sin.

            Noah, alongside the members of his family, become missionaries to the dwellers of the earth, but not even one of them chooses to leave their life of sin. God shows Noah His plan of renewal of human and animal life on the Earth, He makes a covenant with him and his family and commands him to build the ark of salvation.

            In today’s prayer we will thank God for the undeserved solution of salvation. We will continue our prayer imploring His help to live in holiness.
