Sâmbătă, 8 februarie 2025, Ieremia 17:1-27

Evreii din Iuda erau atât de profund implicați în idolatrie și răzvrătire, încât Dumnezeu folosește, prin profetul Ieremia, imaginea scrierii cu un obiect metalic foarte ascuțit: ,,Păcatul lui Iuda este scris cu un priboi de fier, cu un vârf de diamant; este săpat pe tabla inimii lor şi pe coarnele altarelor lor.” (vers. 1)

Pentru a demasca pasiunea lor incredibilă pentru idolatrie, Dumnezeu precizează că dragostea lor pentru idoli era la fel de mare ca dragostea pentru familiile lor: ,,Cum se gândesc la copiii lor, aşa se gândesc la altarele lor şi la idolii şi astarteele lor, lângă copacii verzi, pe dealurile înalte.” (vers. 2)

Oare ce simte Dumnezeu, omenește vorbind, când constată că a pierdut „concurența” cu idolii în inimile evreilor pe care i-a iubit și i-a protejat atât de mult? ,,Ce aş mai fi putut face viei Mele şi nu i-am făcut? Pentru ce a făcut ea struguri sălbatici, când Eu mă aşteptam să facă struguri buni?” (Isaia 5:4)

Ieremia pune în antiteză faptele și consecințele vieții omului bun cu ale celui rău: ,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Blestemat să fie omul care se încrede în om, care se sprijină pe un muritor şi îşi abate inima de la Domnul! Căci este ca un nenorocit în pustie şi nu vede venind fericirea; locuieşte în locurile arse ale pustiei, într-un pământ sărat şi fără locuitori.»” (vers. 5-6)

,,Binecuvântat să fie omul care se încrede în Domnul şi a cărui nădejde este Domnul! Căci el este ca un pom sădit lângă ape, care-şi întinde rădăcinile spre râu; nu se teme de căldură, când vine, şi frunzișul lui rămâne verde; în anul secetei, nu se teme şi nu încetează să aducă rod.” (vers. 7-8)

Binecuvântarea Domnului s-a revărsat în mod egal și peste cei buni, și peste cei răi, însă reacția lor a fost diferită. Unii L-au onorat pe Dumnezeu cu viața lor, iar ceilalți L-au necinstit. Ambele sunt alegeri, iar ambele au consecințe. Alegerile pe care le face un om în viață trădează starea inimii lui: ,,Toţi cei ce Te părăsesc vor fi acoperiţi de ruşine. «Cei ce se abat de la Mine vor fi scrişi pe pământ, căci părăsesc pe Domnul, izvorul de apă vie.»” (vers. 13b)

Privind la istoria acestor oameni care au trăit cu mai bine de 2.500 de ani înaintea noastră, ne dăm seama că ne confruntăm cu aceleași ispite și provocări. Va avea generația noastră discernământul necesar pentru a se teme de Domnul și a împlini voia Sa? Da, pentru că Duhul Domnului, care este peste noi, ne va ajuta să avem „o purtare sfântă şi evlavioasă, aşteptând şi grăbind venirea zilei lui Dumnezeu, în care cerurile aprinse vor pieri şi trupurile cereşti se vor topi de căldura focului” (2 Petru 3:11-12).

Să ne rugăm pentru credincioșie și un rod bogat.

Saturday, February 8, 2025 – Jeremiah 17:1-27

The Jews of Judah were so deeply involved in idolatry and rebellion that God, through the prophet Jeremiah, uses the imagery of writing with a very sharp metal object: “Judah’s sin is engraved with an iron tool, inscribed with a flint point, on the tablets of their hearts and on the horns of their altars.” (v. 1)

To expose their incredible passion for idolatry, God emphasizes that their love for idols was as great as their love for their families: “As their children remember their altars and Asherah poles beside the spreading trees and on the high hills.” (v. 2)

What does God feel, speaking in human terms, when He realizes that He has lost the “competition” with idols in the hearts of the Jews He loved and protected so much? “What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad?” (Isaiah 5:4)

Jeremiah contrasts the actions and consequences of a righteous person’s life with those of the wicked: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.’” (v. 5-6)

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” (v. 7-8)

The Lord’s blessing was poured out equally on both the good and the wicked, but their responses were different. Some honored God with their lives, while others dishonored Him. Both are choices, and both have consequences. The choices a person makes in life reveal the condition of their heart: “All who forsake You will be put to shame; those who turn away from You will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water.” (v. 13b)

Looking at the history of these people who lived more than 2,500 years before us, we realize that we face the same temptations and challenges. Will our generation have the discernment to fear the Lord and fulfill His will? Yes, because the Spirit of the Lord, who is upon us, will help us to live “holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.” (2 Peter 3:11-12)

Let us pray for faithfulness and abundant fruit.
