Sâmbătă, 7 octombrie 2023, 2 Samuel 10:1-19 – Războiul cu amoniții

În timpul domniei lui Saul, Nahas, împăratul amoniților, a atacat Iabeșul din Galaad (1 Samuel 1:1-11). Acum, Nahas a murit și pe tron s-a așezat fiul său, Hanun. David a trimis o delegație să transmită condoleanțe lui Hanun, mângâindu-l pentru moartea tatălui său. Buna intenție a lui David de a întări alianța pe flancul estic cu amoniții a fost greșit interpretată de Hanun care a batjocorit delegația israeliană, tăindu-le hainele și bărbile.

Știind că această atitudine este o declarație de război împotriva evreilor, Hanun și-a organizat armata, angajând mercenari sirieni. Armata lui David condusa de generalii Ioab si Abisai, fii Teruiei, a zdrobit coaliția amonită-siriană și faima lui David s-a mărit și mai mult. Așa cum a promis, Dumnezeu a consolidat domnia lui David.

Stand înaintea Domnului în rugăciune, ne vom închina mulțumind lui Dumnezeu pentru suveranitatea Sa. Dumnezeu ridică și coboară, Dumnezeu face tot ce vrea în cer și pe pământ.

De asemenea, vom cere Domnului harul de a administra cu înțelepciune ce am primit de la El.

Saturday, October 7, 2023: 2 Samuel 10:1-19 – The War with the Ammonites

During Saul's reign, Nahash, the king of the Ammonites, attacked Jabesh-Gilead (1 Samuel 1:1-11).  Nahash had died, and his son Hanun ascended to the throne. David sent a delegation to offer condolences to Hanun, consoling him for the loss of his father. David's good intention to strengthen the alliance on the eastern flank with the Ammonites was misinterpreted by Hanun, who humiliated the Israeli delegation by cutting their garments and shaving their beards.

Realizing that this act was a declaration of war against the Israelites, Hanun assembled his army, and hired Syrian mercenaries. David's army, led by generals Joab and Abishai, sons of Zeruiah, crushed the Ammonite-Syrian coalition, further enhancing David's renown. As promised, God strengthened David's reign.

As we stand before the Lord in prayer, we will worship Him, thanking God for His sovereignty. God raises and lowers, God does whatever He pleases in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, we will ask the Lord for the grace to wisely manage what we have received from Him.
