Duminică, 6 august 2023, Judecători 5:1-31 – Cântarea de laudă a Deborei

Debora a fost prima și singura femeie care a exercitat vreodată autoritate civilă în Israel. În urma victoriei, ea a compus o cântare de laudă pentru Dumnezeu, pe care a cântat-o împreună cu Barac. Cântarea a fost un imn al victoriei, tema fiind binecuvântarea și blestemul. Imnul avea cinci părți: (1) titlul cântării, (2) laudele Deborei, (3) adunarea semințiilor, (4) înfrângerea canaaniților, (5) rugăciunea la final de blestem și binecuvântare.

Urmează o perioadă de patruzeci de ani de pace încheiată cu ,,obișnuita” delăsare spirituală și morală – ,,Copiii lui Israel au făcut ce nu plăcea Domnului” (6:1). Este greu de înțeles cum acest popor trece în mod repetat prin aceleași experiențe: (1) idolatrie, (2) asuprire, (3) eliberare, (4) perioadă de pace și alunecarea în idolatrie…

Urmează obișnuita rugăciune de dimineață. Începem rugăciunea cu mulțumire. Vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru că repară ce noi am stricat și restaurează ce noi am distrus. Apoi vom continua rugăciunea schimbând mulțumirea în cerere. Vom cere de la Dumnezeu puterea de a trăi separați de păcat. Alegem să nu ne mai întoarcem în groapa din care tocmai ne-a scos Dumnezeu. Nu vom mai da dușmanului satisfacția că ne biruiește din nou.

Sunday, August 6, 2023: Judges 5:1-31 – Deborah's Song of Praise

Deborah was the first and only woman to ever exercise civil authority in Israel. After victory, she composed a song of praise to God, which she sang together with Barak. The song was a hymn of victory, with a theme of blessing and curse. The hymn had five parts: (1) the title of the song, (2) Deborah's praises, (3) the gathering of tribes, (4) the defeat of the Canaanites, (5) the final prayer of curse and blessing.

This was followed a period of forty years of peace, ending with the “usual” spiritual and moral laxity – “The children of Israel did what displeased the Lord” (6:1). It is hard to understand how the people repeatedly go through the same experiences: (1) idolatry, (2) oppression, (3) liberation, (4) a period of peace, and then slipping back into idolatry…

Our usual morning prayer will follow. We start our prayer with gratitude. We will thank God for repairing what we have broken and restoring what we have destroyed. Then we will continue our prayer, changing gratitude into request. We will ask God for the power to live separated from sin. We choose not to return to the pit from which God has saved us. We will not give the enemy the satisfaction of defeating us again.
