Duminică, 5 noiembrie 2023, 1 Regi 15:1-34 – Răutatea lui Abiam

Abiam, fiul lui Roboam și Maaca, a domnit trei ani în Iuda (913-911 î.Cr). El a tolerat idolatria, a practicat toate păcatele tatălui său, însă nu L-a părăsit pe Dumnezeu. Datorită promisiunii pe care Domnul a făcut-o lui David, Ierusalimul a rămas în picioare, în ciuda domnitorilor slabi pe care i-au avut cele două regate ale evreilor.

Este impresionant faptul că David a continuat să aibă o mare trecere înaintea Domnului chiar și după moartea sa. De asemenea, este impresionant să vedem cât de mult apreciază Dumnezeu credincioșia și ascultarea unui om.

Abiam a murit și în locul său a domnit Asa. El a domnit 41 de ani la Ierusalim și a făcut ce este bine înaintea Domnului. În primii zece ani de domnie a fost pace și Asa a inițiat mai multe reforme spirituale. Încurajat de profetul Azaria, Asa a expulzat sodomiții și a distrus idolii introduși de regii Roaboam și Abiam. Nu i-a mai permis mamei lui, Maaca, să fie împărăteasă pentru că făcuse un idol Astarteii.

Opt dintre cei 19 regi pe care i-a avut Iuda, Regatul de Sud, au fost buni, credincioși lui Dumnezeu. Patru dintre acești regi au făcut reforme spirituale foarte mari și au atras poporul spre Dumnezeu și spre ascultarea de legea Domnului.

După cum Roboam a fost într-un conflict permanent, tot la fel, Baesa, regele Israelului, a fost un dușman de moarte al lui Asa. Baesa a vrut să consolideze cetatea Rama, însă Asa a cumpărat alianța cu Ben-Hadad, împăratul Siriei, care a rupt legământul cu Baesa.

Profetul Hanani l-a mustrat pe Asa pentru că a cerut ajutor regelui Siriei și nu a cerut ajutorul Domnului. Asa s-a supărat pe Hanani și l-a închis. Probabil succesul său împotriva Egiptului și Israelului l-au făcut să aibă o părere prea înaltă despre sine.

Spre bătrânețe, Asa a avut mari dureri de picioare și, în loc să caute fața Domnului pentru vindecare, s-a bazat doar pe doctori. Când Asa a murit, în Israel domnea Ahab. Nadab, fiul lui Ieroboam, a domnit doi ani în Samaria și a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului. Baesa l-a omorât pe Nadab la Ghibeton și a domnit în locul lui pe tronul Israelului. În felul acesta s-a împlinit profeția lui Ahia despre distrugerea casei lui Ieroboam, care a făcut mult rău înaintea Domnului și s-a închinat în fața celor doi viței de aur. Baesa a devenit rege în al treilea an de domnie al lui Asa, și a domnit la Tirta 24 de ani (909-886).

Este timpul rugăciunii și vom mulțumi Domnului pentru protecție și binecuvântări. Trăim într-o lume fragilă, însă Domnul este protecția noastră. Apoi, ne vom ruga Domnului să ocrotească viețile și membrii familiilor noastre. Dincolo de dimensiunea fizică a viețior noastre, să ne rugăm Domnului să aibă milă de sufletele noastre.

Sunday, November 5, 2023: 1 Kings 15:1-34 –Abiam’s Wickedness

Abiam, son of Rehoboam and Maacah, reigned for three years in Judah (913-911 B.C.). He tolerated idolatry and practiced all the sins of his father, but he did not forsake God. Because of the promise the Lord made to David, Jerusalem remained standing, despite the weak rulers that the two kingdoms of the Jews had.

It is impressive that David continued to have great favor before the Lord even after his death. It is also striking to see how much God values the faithfulness and obedience of a man.

Abiam died and Asa succeeded him as king. He reigned for 41 years in Jerusalem and did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. In his first ten years of reign, there was peace, and Asa initiated many spiritual reforms. Encouraged by the prophet Azariah, Asa expelled the sodomites and destroyed the idols introduced by the kings Rehoboam and Abiam. He no longer allowed his mother, Maacah, to be queen because she had made an idol of Astarte.

Eight of the 19 kings that Judah, the Southern Kingdom had, were good and faithful to God. Four of these kings carried out very significant spiritual reforms and drew the people closer to God and the obedience to the Lord's law.

Just as Rehoboam was in constant conflict, Baesha, the king of Israel, was a mortal enemy of Asa. Baesha wanted to fortify the city of Rama, but Asa secured an alliance with Ben-Hadad, the king of Syria, who broke his covenant with Baesha.

The prophet Hanani rebuked Asa because he sought the help of the king of Syria and not the Lord's assistance. Asa became angry with Hanani and imprisoned him. His success against Egypt and Israel likely made him think too highly of himself.

In his old age, Asa suffered from severe foot pain, and instead of seeking the Lord's face for healing, he relied solely on doctors. When Asa died, Ahab ruled in Israel. Nadab, the son of Jeroboam, reigned for two years in Samaria and did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. Baesha killed Nadab in Gibbethon and reigned in his place on the throne of Israel. This way, Ahijah's prophecy about the destruction of Jeroboam's house, who did much evil before the Lord and worshipped the two golden calves, was fulfilled. Baesha became king in the third year of Asa's reign and reigned in Tirzah for 24 years (909-886).

It is time for prayer, and we will thank the Lord for protection and blessings. We live in a fragile world, but the Lord is our protection. Then, we will pray to the Lord to guard the lives of the members of our families. Beyond the physical dimension of our lives, let's pray to the Lord to have mercy on our souls.
