Sâmbătă, 4 noiembrie 2023, 1 Regi 14:1-31 – Boala fiului lui Ieroboam

Abiia, fiul lui Ieroboam, s-a îmbolnăvit și împăratul a trimis-o pe soția lui la Ahia, prorocul Domnului, să întrebe ce se va întâmpla cu fiul lor. Ieroboam i-a cerut soției sale să se deghizeze pentru ca nimeni să nu știe că este soția împăratului.

Ahia era bătrân și orb, însă Dumnezeu i-a descoperit că soția regelui va veni la el. Deși mama copilului spera să primească un mesaj pozitiv, Ahia prorocul i-a spus din partea Domnului că fiul ei va muri din cauza păcatelor lui Ieroboam care au atras națiunea în idolatrie (vers. 9). După 22 de ani de domnie, Ieroboam a murit și Nadab, fiul său, preluat tronul.

Roboam a împărățit 17 ani la Ierusalim și a fost într-un război continuu cu Ieroboam. El a fost un împărat rău și a promovat idolatria și păgânismul (2 Cronici 12:1, 14). Probabil că această înclinație puternică spre idolatrie a lui Roboam se trăgea de la Naam, mama lui. Aceasta a fost una dintre soțiile amonite ale lui Solomon. Ea se închina zeului Moloh și idolatria i-a influențat copilul și întreaga națiune.

Sisac, împăratul Egiptului, i-a oferit azil politic lui Ierboam. În anul al cincilea al domniei lui Roboam, Sisac a încercat să cucerească Palestina. Campania lui militară în Iuda, Israel, Filistia și Edom s-a încheiat cu anexarea a 156 de cetăți. Roboam a murit și a fost îngropat în Ierusalim și fiul său, Abiam, a domnit în locul lui.

Fiind timpul rugăciunii, vom mulțumi Domnului pentru lecția de viață pe care o primim din experiența regilor din Iuda și Israel. Mărturiile negative ale vieților acestor împărați ne spun despre faptul că poziția sa în societate sau starea materială nu îi afectează viața spirituală. Viața spirituală a unui om este o alegere specifică, concretă. Apoi, ne vom ruga lui Dumnezeu să ne dea putere pentru a rămâne credincioși, indiferent dacă vom fi oameni simpli sau înalți demnitari, dacă vom fi oameni săraci sau bogați, ceea ce este important este să rămânem credincioși lui Dumnezeu.

Saturday, November 4, 2023: 1 Kings 14:1-31 – The Illness of Jeroboam's Son

Abijah, the son of Jeroboam, became ill, and the king sent his wife to Ahijah, the prophet of the Lord, to ask what would happen to their son. Jeroboam asked his wife to disguise herself so that no one would know she was the king's wife.

Ahijah was old and blind, but God revealed to him that the king's wife would come to him. Although the child's mother hoped for a positive message, Ahijah the prophet told her on the Lord's behalf that her son would die because of Jeroboam's sins that led the nation into idolatry (verse 9). After 22 years of reign, Jeroboam died, and Nadab, his son, took the throne.

Rehoboam reigned for 17 years in Jerusalem and was continuously at war with Jeroboam. He was a wicked king and promoted idolatry and paganism (2 Chronicles 12:1, 14). It is likely that Rehoboam's strong inclination towards idolatry came from Naamah, his mother. She was one of Solomon's Ammonite wives. She worshiped the god Molech, and her idolatry influenced both her child and the entire nation.

Shishak, the king of Egypt, offered political asylum to Jeroboam. In the fifth year of Rehoboam's reign, Shishak tried to conquer Palestine. His military campaign in Judah, Israel, Philistia, and Edom ended with the annexation of 156 cities. Rehoboam died and was buried in Jerusalem, and his son, Abijah, reigned in his place.

As it is time for prayer, we will thank the Lord for the life lessons we receive from the experiences of the kings of Judah and Israel. The negative testimonies of these kings' lives tell us that one's position in society or material state does not affect their spiritual life. A person's spiritual life is a specific, concrete choice. Then, we will pray to God to give us strength to remain faithful, whether we are ordinary people or high dignitaries, whether we are poor or rich; what's important is to stay faithful to God.
