Capitolul 15 face parte din grupul capitolelor 15-17 care prezintă cele trei pilde prin care Dumnezeu explică de ce evreii nu pot scăpa de pedeapsa divină. Dumnezeu compară poporul evreu cu o viță, un lemn care nu este bun pentru construcție.

1.     Vița de vie este bună doar pentru rodire, acesta fiind singurul ei scop (vers. 1-5): „Fiul omului, ce are lemnul de viță mai mult decât orice alt lemn, vițele-de-vie mai mult decât cele ce sunt printre copacii din pădure?” (vers. 2) Dumnezeu folosește această pildă pentru a pune în evidență lipsa de rod a Ierusalimului și faptul că, în afară de rod, nu mai poate face nimic folositor pentru Dumnezeu: „După roadele lor îi veți cunoaște.” (Matei 7:16)

2.     Vița de vie este bună doar pentru a fi arsă (vers. 4-5). Israel, care nu a ascultat de Dumnezeu, devine asemenea lemnului uscat, bun doar pentru focul judecății: „Iată că este pus pe foc să ardă. După ce îi arde focul cele două capete și mijlocul, mai poate fi el bun de ceva?” (vers. 4)

3.     Pentru că Israel este asemenea unei vițe arse de foc, urmează să fie distrusă (vers. 6-8): „Voi face din țara aceasta un pustiu, pentru că au fost necredincioși, zice Domnul Dumnezeu.” (vers. 8)

Lecția de viață a acestui capitol susține adevărul Bibliei potrivit căruia, fără pocăință, pedeapsa divină este inevitabilă: „Nu vă înșelați: Dumnezeu nu Se lasă batjocorit. Ce seamănă omul, aceea va și secera.” (Galateni 6:7) Să ne rugăm lui Dumnezeu pentru un rod bogat, care să-L onoreze și să-L înalțe pe Dumnezeu.

Chapter 15 is part of the group of chapters 15–17 that present three parables through which God explains why the Israelites cannot escape divine punishment. God compares the people of Israel to a vine, a type of wood that is not useful for construction.

1. The vine is only useful for bearing fruit—that is its sole purpose (verses 1–5): “Son of man, how is the wood of a vine better than that of a branch from any of the trees in the forest?” (verse 2)
   God uses this parable to highlight the fruitlessness of Jerusalem and the fact that, apart from bearing fruit, it is useless to Him: “By their fruit you will recognize them.” (Matthew 7:16)
2. The vine is only good to be burned (verses 4–5). Israel, having disobeyed God, becomes like dry wood, fit only for the fire of judgment: “If it is thrown on the fire as fuel and the fire burns both ends and chars the middle, is it then useful for anything?” (verse 4)
3. Because Israel is like a vine burned by fire, it will be destroyed (verses 6–8): “I will make the land desolate because they have been unfaithful, declares the Sovereign Lord.” (verse 8)

The life lesson of this chapter upholds the biblical truth that, without repentance, divine punishment is unavoidable: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians 6:7) Let us pray to God for rich fruit in our lives—fruit that honors and exalts Him.
