Joi, 4 mai 2023, Numeri 5:1-31 – Carantina pentru cei necurați 

Evenimentele relatate în cele 36 de capitole ale cărții Numeri acoperă cronologic 38 de ani. În primul capitol al cărții poporul este cantonat la poalele Muntelui Sinai. Din punct de vedere cronologic acest eveniment se petrece la o lună de la ridicarea Cortului Întâlnirii (Exodul 40:17). Douăzeci de zile mai târziu, israeliții ridică tabăra, întrucât norul se ridicase de pe Cortul Întâlnirii (Numeri 10:11).

În capitolul 5 pe care l-am citit astăzi, Moise amintește evreilor de sfințenia lui Iehova și de nevoia de sfințire a poporului. Dumnezeu nu este preocupat doar de aspectul spiritual din viața oamenilor, ci și de aspectul fizic și moral al acestora. Intrarea unora în contact cu anumite boli expunea poporul la îmbolnăvire, motiv pentru care Dumnezeu a emis legi stricte de carantină

(v. 1-4). Cei care se îmbolnăveau și deveneau necurați din punct de vedere ceremonial, nu puteau veni la Cortul Întâlnirii și nici nu puteau relaționa cu ceilalți oameni. În astfel de situații erau oamenii bolnavi de lepră, cei care au avut o scurgere de sămânță sau cei care s-au atins de un mort.

Fiindcă viața de familie este foarte importantă pentru Dumnezeu, El a dat legi pentru a proteja și promova stabilitatea familiei (v. 11-31). Următoarele 21 de versete tratează problema infidelității. Infidelitatea conjugală atrăgea după sine o pedeapsă aspră. Preotul făcea un test neobișnuit în speranța unui miracol care urma să descopere presupusa vinovăție a femeii suspectate. Această exigență vorbea despre sfințenia lui Dumnezeu, dar și despre sfințenia oamenilor lui Dumnezeu! Cu o astfel de reacție aspră față de păcat se creează în timp o cultură a moralității și sfințeniei.

Începem timpul devoțional din această dimineață mulțumindu-I lui Dumnezeu pentru că a investit în mântuirea noastră. Prin întrupare L-a trimis pe Fiul Său ca să ne justifice de păcatele din trecut. De păcatele din trecut scăpăm prin pocăință, iar de cele potențiale din prezent scăpăm prin înfrânare. Vom continua rugându-ne împotriva păcatelor sexuale, de la cele făcute în mintea omului (Matei 5:28), până la cele făcute cu fapta (Ioan 8:3-5).

Thursday, May 4, 2023: Numbers 5:1-31 – Quarantine for the Unclean

The events recounted in the 36 chapters of the book of Numbers cover a chronological span of 38 years. In the first chapter of the book, the people are camped at the foot of Mount Sinai. Chronologically, this event takes place one month after the erection of the Tabernacle (Tent of Meeting) (Exodus 40:17). Twenty days later, the Israelites break camp, as the cloud has lifted from the Tent of Meeting (Numbers 10:11).

In the chapter that we read today, Moses reminds the Israelites of Jehovah's holiness and the need to sanctify the people. God is concerned not only with the spiritual aspect of people's lives, but also with their physical and moral aspect. The entry of some into contact with certain diseases exposed the people to illness, which is why God issued strict quarantine laws (v. 1-4). Those who became sick and ceremonially unclean could not come to the Tent of Meeting and could not associate with other people. In such situations were those sick with leprosy, those who had a discharge of semen, or those who had touched a dead body.

Because family life is very important to God, He gave laws to protect and promote family stability (v. 11-31). The next 21 verses deal with the issue of infidelity. Conjugal infidelity brought on a harsh punishment. The priest administered an unusual test in the hope of a miracle that would reveal the supposed guilt of the suspected woman. This requirement spoke of the holiness of God, but also of the holiness of God's people! With such a harsh reaction to sin, a culture of morality and sanctity is created over time.

We begin our devotional time this morning by thanking God for investing in our salvation. Through the incarnation, He sent His Son to justify us of past sins. We escape from past sins through repentance, and from potential sins in the present through self-control. We will continue to pray against sexual sins, from those committed in the mind of man (Matthew 5:28), to those committed in action (John 8:3-5).
