Acesta este al treila psalm de pocăință, după psalmii 6 și 32. Următorii trei psalmi ai pocăinței sunt 51, 102 și 130.

Psalmul acesta este un cântec de jale, un cântec trist care reflectă starea sufletească a regelui David. În spate era adulterul cu Baatșeba și uciderea soțului ei, Urie (2 Samuel 11). În față urma răscoala fiului său, Absalom (2 Samuel 15).

Dumnezeu era supărat pe David pentru păcatele făcute împotriva familiei lui Urie. Aceasta este marea problemă, atunci când omul păcătuiește, Dumnezeu îl vede! Dumnezeu l-a văzut pe David și, în dreptatea Sa, l-a pedepsit.

David a conștientizat gravitatea păcatelor sale. Atracția pătimașă care l-a împins s-o cheme la el pe Baatșeba s-a stins și frica i-a luat locul. Nevoia de a-l elimina pe Urie a dispărut și a fost înlocuită de groază.

Prorocul Natan, trimis de Dumnezeu, l-a vizitat, l-a demascat, l-a judecat și a rostit sentința. Restul vieții nu a scăpat de aceste consecințe.

Câtă nebunie poate fi ascunsă în inima unui om care alege să nu mai vegheze asupra inimii lui. Cât de convingătoare este această atracție! Față de soție, sub protecția legământului, este binecuvântare. Față de oricare altă persoană este moarte. Atracția a plecat și moartea a rămas.  

Singurul lucru pe care l-a mai putut face David a fost să se roage lui Dumnezeu, să-și verbalizeze pocăința, cerând iertare.

,,Doamne, nu mă mustra în mânia Ta şi nu mă pedepsi în urgia Ta! Căci săgeţile Tale s-au înfipt în mine şi mâna Ta apasă asupra mea. N-a mai rămas nimic sănătos în carnea mea din pricina mâniei Tale; nu mai este nicio vlagă în oasele mele în urma păcatului meu. Căci fărădelegile mele se ridică deasupra capului meu; ca o povară grea, sunt prea grele pentru mine.” (vers. 1-4)

Cât de scump plătește omul nebunia păcatului! Deși Dumnezeu l-a iertat, David a suportat restul vieții consecințele. Iertarea păcatului mărturisit nu elimină consecințele. Au fost așa de dramatice consecințele pentru casa lui David!

Primele 12 versete explică pedeapsa lui Dumnezeu pentru nebunia păcatului făcut de rege. Următoarele 10 versete pun în evidență speranța lui David că va fi iertat și restaurat de Dumnezeu. Ca în toți ceilalți psalmi scriși de el, David începe într-o notă negativă și termină într-o notă pozitivă.

,,Doamne, în Tine nădăjduiesc; Tu vei răspunde, Doamne Dumnezeule! … Nu mă părăsi, Doamne! Dumnezeule, nu Te depărta de mine! Vino degrabă în ajutorul meu, Doamne, Mântuirea mea!” (vers. 15:21-22)

Dumnezeu nu a văzut doar păcatele lui David, deși au fost mizerabile, El a văzut și pocăința lui David. David a făcut din acești psalmi cântări de laudă care se cântau în public. Nu a ascuns nimic. Dimpotrivă, a expus firea pământească și a lăsat-o fără putere.

Dumnezeu a văzut pocaința lui David și l-a iertat. Peste ani, după ce l-a chemat în veșnicie, Solomon, fiul său, L-a supărat mult pe Dumnezeu și a hotărât să-l pedepsească. Atât de mult l-a iubit Dumnezeu pe David, încât în contul său l-a iertat pe Solomon.

Este greu de înțeles… Dragostea lui Dumnezeu nu poate fi pătrunsă! ,,Tu asculţi rugăciunea, de aceea toţi oamenii vor veni la Tine.” (Psalm 65:2) Lăudat, mult lăudat să fie Dumnezeul cel Preaînalt!

Tuesday, June 4, 2024 – Psalm 38:1-22

This is the third psalm of repentance, following Psalms 6 and 32. The next three psalms of repentance are 51, 102, and 130.

This psalm is a lament, a sad song reflecting the state of King David’s soul. Behind him was the adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband, Uriah (2 Samuel 11). Ahead was the rebellion of his son, Absalom (2 Samuel 15).

God was angry with David for the sins committed against Uriah’s family. This is the great problem when man sins, God sees him! God saw David and, in His righteousness, punished him.

David realized the gravity of his sins. The passionate attraction that led him to call Bathsheba to him faded, and fear took its place. The need to eliminate Uriah disappeared and was replaced by terror.

The prophet Nathan, sent by God, visited him, exposed him, judged him, and pronounced the sentence. He did not escape these consequences for the rest of his life.

How much madness can be hidden in the heart of a man who chooses not to watch over his heart anymore. How convincing is this attraction! Towards the wife, under the protection of the covenant, it is a blessing. Towards any other person, it is death. The attraction left, and death remained.

The only thing David could do was pray to God, verbalize his repentance, and ask for forgiveness.

“Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. Your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down on me. Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin. My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.” (verses 1-4)

How dearly man pays for the madness of sin! Although God forgave him, David endured the consequences for the rest of his life. The forgiveness of confessed sin does not eliminate the consequences. The consequences for David’s house were extremely dramatic!

The first 12 verses explain God’s punishment for the madness of the sin committed by the king. The next 10 verses highlight David’s hope that he will be forgiven and restored by God. As in all the other psalms he wrote, David starts on a negative note and ends on a positive one.

“Lord, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God. … Do not forsake me, Lord. Do not be far from me, my God. Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.” (verses 15, 21-22)

God not only saw David’s sins, though they were miserable, but He also saw David’s repentance. David made these psalms songs of praise to be sung in public. He did not hide anything. On the contrary, he exposed the sinful nature and left it powerless.

God saw David’s repentance and forgave him. Over the years, after He called David into eternity, Solomon, his son, greatly angered God, who decided to punish him. But God loved David so much that He forgave Solomon for David’s sake.

It is hard to understand… The love of God cannot be fathomed! “You who answer prayer, to you all people will come.” (Psalm 65:2) Praise, greatly praise, the Most High God!
