Unul dintre subiectele care s-au constituit într-o mare dilemă de-a lungul istoriei pentru oamenii credincioși a fost nevoia să înțeleagă de ce Dumnezeu îngăduie uneori sărăcia sau suferința în viața credincioșilor, în timp ce uneori necredincioșii sunt bogați și sănătoși. Subiectul acesta delicat este dezbătut și în psalmii 49 și 73, Cartea Iov și a lui Habacuc.

De ce nu pedepsește Dumnezeu oamenii necredincioși aici pe pământ? De ce uneori le merge bine și sunt bogați și sănătoși, în timp ce unii oameni credincioși trec prin sărăcie și suferință?

Răspunsurile din psalmul 37 nu epuizează subiectul, însă ne dau câteva repere importante.

Încrede-te în Dumnezeu și nu lăsa frământarea să te conducă la necredință. Biblia ne cere să ne încredem în Dumnezeu.

Credința nu este logică pentru că ea se referă la Dumnezeu care este supranatural și supranaturalul nu este deloc logic. Naturalul este logic, însă supranaturalul este enigmatic, imposibil și inexplicabil. Din moment ce supranaturalul este inexplicabil, de ce ne mirăm că nu găsim o explicație suficientă?

Nimeni nu-L poate înțelege pe deplin pe Dumnezeu, deoarece El este infinit, etern, atotputernic, atotștiutor, atotprezent. Condiția existenței lui Dumnezeu este infinită, iar a noastră este finită, limitată. Înțelegând acest aspect, de ce ne miram că nu găsim o explicație suficientă în condiția noastră de limitare și temporalitate?

În raportul nostru cu Dumnezeu trebuie să folosim credința în toate privințele, inclusiv cu privire la subiectul tratat de psalmul 37. Psalmistul ne spune că viața este scurtă. În această ,,bucată de temporalitate”, uneori necredincioșilor s-ar putea să le meargă mai bine, însă psalmistul ne oferă imaginea ierbii, care dimineața este verde, dar la amiază pălește. Eternitatea este un timp fără sfârșit, nu doar o firimitură de ,,dimineață”.

Prin credință ne ancorăm în promisiunile lui Dumnezeu, știind că veșnică va fi bucuria și desfătarea copiilor lui Dumnezeu.

Pentru ,,o clipă”, aici pe pământ, uneori necredincioșilor le merge mai bine. Să ne folosim credința și încrederea în Dumnezeu, făcând diferența dintre ,,clipa” de pe pământ și eternitatea în slavă cu Dumnezeu.

Noi nu trebuie să fim naivi, ci doar credincioși. Mintea noastră are nevoie de argumente. Argumentul credinței este un pod ce unește finitul uman cu infinitul divin. Logica nu funcționează în această paradigmă.

Ne vom ruga Domnului în această dimineață să fim credincioși, să credem în Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, să avem încredere deplină în Cuvântul etern al lui Dumnezeu.

One of the topics that has constituted a major dilemma throughout the history of believers has been the need to understand why God sometimes allows poverty or suffering in the lives of believers, while sometimes the ungodly are rich and healthy. This delicate subject is also debated in Psalms 49 and 73, the Book of Job, and Habakkuk.

Why does God not punish the ungodly here on earth? Why do they sometimes prosper and are rich and healthy, while some believers go through poverty and suffering?

The answers in Psalm 37 do not exhaust the subject, but they give us some important guidelines.

Trust in the Lord and do not let your agitation lead you to unbelief. The Bible calls us to trust in the Lord.

Faith is not logical because it refers to God, who is supernatural, and the supernatural is not at all logical. The natural is logical, but the supernatural is enigmatic, impossible, and inexplicable. Since the supernatural is inexplicable, why are we surprised that we do not find a sufficient explanation?

No one can fully understand God, because He is infinite, eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent. God’s existence is infinite, and ours is finite, limited. Understanding this aspect, why are we surprised that we do not find a sufficient explanation in our condition of limitation and temporality?

In our relationship with God, we must use faith in all respects, including regarding the subject treated by Psalm 37. The psalmist tells us that life is short. In this “slice of temporality,” sometimes the ungodly might fare better, but the psalmist offers us the image of grass, which is green in the morning, but withers by noon. Eternity is a time without end, not just a crumb of “morning.”

By faith, we anchor ourselves in God’s promises, knowing that eternity will be the joy and delight of God’s children.

For a “moment” here on earth, sometimes the ungodly fare better. Let us have faith and trust in God, understanding the difference between the “moment” on earth and eternity in the glory of God.

We must not be naive, but faithful. Our mind needs arguments. The argument of faith is a bridge that connects human finiteness with divine endlessness. Logic does not work in this paradigm.

Let us now pray to our Lord this morning to help us be faithful, to trust in His Word, to have complete trust in the eternal Word of God.
