Marți, 31 octombrie 2023, 1 Regi 10:1-29 – Faima lui Solomon

Asemenea multor conducători din toată lumea (1 Regi 4:34), împărăteasa din Seba a auzit despre faima lui Solomon și a venit ,,să-l încerce prin întrebări grele”. Scriptura precizează ,,faima lui Solomon în ce privește slava Domnului” (vers. 1). Ce bine ar fi dacă toți oamenii cu faimă din generația noastră ar avea o ,,faimă în ce privește slava Domnului”. Într-un limbaj mai simplu, Solomon a ajuns cunoscut/celebru datorită lucrurilor pe care le-a făcut pentru slava lui Dumnezeu.

Seba, de unde venea misterioasa împărăteasă, era actualul Yemen din Arabia, aproximativ 2000 de km de Ierusalim. Dincolo de curiozitățile ei personale, împărăteasa din Seba a vrut să poarte discuții comerciale și să încheie alianțe militare. Ea a venit cu multe daruri și un alai impresionant, ceea ce demonstra propria ei faimă. După obiceiul vremii, i-a adus lui Solomon mirodenii, pietre scumpe și 4.5 tone de aur (vers. 2, 10). De asemenea, Solomon i-a dat împărătesei daruri, ,,tot ce a dorit, tot ce a cerut”.

Solomon a adunat multă bogăție, în ciuda faptului că Dumnezeu a poruncit să nu adune cantități mari de aur. El și-a cumpărat foarte multe care și cai, deși Scriptura interzicea lucrul acesta (Deuteronom 17:16). Scopul lui Dumnezeu cu aceste limite era să cultive încrederea poporului în Dumnezeu, nu în resurse umane. El dorea ca regele și poporul să nu depindă de bogăție și armată, ci de Domnul. Încrederea lui Solomon în resurse omenești l-a îndepărtat de Dumnezeu.

,,Casa Pădurea Libanului” era un adevărat depozit de arme al regelui.

a)     El avea 200 de scuturi mari, fiecare scut fiind făcut din 3.5 kg. de aur.

b)    Avea 300 de scuturi mici, fiecare fiind făcut din 1.7 kg de aur.

c)     Scaunul lui de domnie era placat cu aur.

d)    Avea 12 lei, câte șase așezați pe cele două parți ale scării care ducea la tron.

e)     Avea 7 kg de aur pentru un car de luptă.

Întotdeauna, când omul devine bogat și puternic, este tentat să creadă că nu mai are nevoie de Dumnezeu. Avem din nou oportunitatea să ne rugăm împreună. Vom mulțumi Domnului pentru promisiunile împlinite. Un Dumnezeu bun și credincios! Slava Lui! Apoi vom continua rugăciunea înaintea lui Dumnezeu, cerând echilibru și încredere în Dumnezeu. Vulnerabilitatea noastră Îl face pe Dumnezeu necesar. Încrederea noastră în noi elimină nevoia de Dumnezeu.

Tuesday, October 31, 2023: 1 Kings 10:1-29 – Solomon's Fame

Like many leaders from around the world (1 Kings 4:34), the queen of Sheba had heard about Solomon's fame and came to “test Solomon with hard questions.” The Scripture specifies “ fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord” (verse 1). How great it would be if all the famous people of our generation had a “fame concerning the glory of the Lord.” In simpler terms, Solomon became known/famous because of the things he did for the glory of God.

Sheba, from where the mysterious queen came, is present-day Yemen in Arabia, about 2000 km from Jerusalem. Beyond her personal curiosities, the queen of Sheba wanted to engage in trade discussions and establish military alliances. She came with many gifts and an impressive entourage, demonstrating her own fame. According to the customs of the time, she brought Solomon spices, precious stones, and 4.5 tons of gold (verses 2, 10). In return, Solomon gave the queen gifts, “everything she desired, all that she asked for.”

Solomon amassed great wealth, despite God's command not to accumulate large quantities of gold. He bought many chariots and horses, even though the Scripture forbade it (Deuteronomy 17:16). God's purpose with these limits was to foster the people's trust in God, not in human resources. He wanted the king and the people to depend not on wealth and the army but on the Lord. Solomon's trust in human resources distanced him from God. The “House of the Forest of Lebanon” was a true armory of the king.

a)     He had 200 large shields, each shield made of 3.5 kg of gold.

b)    He had 300 small shields, each made of 1.7 kg of gold.

c)     His throne was gold-plated.

d)    He had 12 lions, six on each side of the staircase leading to the throne.

e)     He had 7 kg of gold for a chariot.

Whenever people become rich and powerful, they are tempted to believe they no longer need God. We have the opportunity to pray together again. We will thank the Lord for the fulfilled promises. A good and faithful God! Glory to Him! We will then continue our prayer before God, asking for balance and trust in Him. Our vulnerability makes God essential. Our confidence in ourselves eliminates the need for God.
