Miercuri, 30 august 2023, 1 Samuel 3:1-21 – Chemarea lui Samuel

Cu toate că Samuel a fost dedicat slujbei levitice, a copilărit în Casa lui Dumnezeu, Cuvântul Domnului încă nu-i fusese descoperit (v. 7). Prima profeție către Samuel conținea un mesaj dramatic pentru casa lui Eli: ,,I-am spus (lui Eli) că vreau să pedepsesc casa lui pentru totdeauna, din pricina fărădelegii de care are cunoştinţă şi prin care fiii lui s-au făcut vrednici de lepădat, fără ca el să-i fi oprit” (v. 13).

Eli a știut și nu a luat atitudine. Dumnezeu a știut și a luat atitudine: ,,Iată că voi face în Israel un lucru care va asurzi urechile oricui îl va auzi” (v. 11). Dumnezeu nu a validat atitudinea iresponsabilă a lui Eli; dimpotrivă, a confruntat-o și a contestat-o.

Samuel a crescut înaintea lui Eli și a fost cumplit pentru el să-i transmită acest mesaj șocant binefăcătorului său. În ce situații delicate te pune uneori slujba la care te-a chemat Dumnezeu! Cât de greu o fi fost pentru Eli să audă acest mesaj cumplit pentru copiii lui! Iresponsabilitatea pe care a manifestat-o față de lucrarea lui Dumnezeu s-a transformat în pedeapsă pentru familia lui.

Este adevărat cuvântul care spune:,,Grozav lucru este să cazi în mâinile Dumnezeului celui viu!” (Evrei 10:31). Eli a mai trăit un timp după anunțarea acestei pedepse și familia lui a mai slujit ca preoți încă trei generații (1 Samuel 14:3). Ahia, strănepotul lui Eli, a slujit ca preot al regelui Saul. Perioada de timp dintre profeție și împlinirea acesteia a fost de 130 de ani. Eli a știut că profeția spusă de tânărul Samuel a venit de la Dumnezeu (v. 15-21). Tot Israelul a știu că Samuel era proroc al Domnului (v. 20). Acest fenomen a făcut tranziția de la descoperirile prin preoți și efod la descoperirile prin profeți.

O nouă zi, o nouă experiență cu Dumnezeu în rugăciune. Vom mulțumi Părintelui ceresc pentru chemarea adresată. Chemarea divină este pentru mântuire și pentru slujire. Continuând rugăciunea, vom cere de la Dumnezeu puterea să ne pocăim și să ne corectăm atunci când am păcătuit. Eli a știut și nu a luat atitudine. A recunoscut, însă nu a îndreptat în niciun felul răul pe care l-a făcut.

Wednesday, 30th August 2023: 1 Samuel 3:1-21 – Samuel's Calling

Although Samuel was dedicated to the Levitical service and grew up in the House of God, the Word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him (v. 7). The first prophecy to Samuel contained a dramatic message for Eli's household: “For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God, and he failed to restrain them” (v. 13).

Eli knew and did not take action. God knew and took action: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle” (v. 11). God did not validate Eli's irresponsible attitude; on the contrary, He confronted and challenged it.

Samuel grew up in front of Eli, and it was heart-wrenching for him to deliver this shocking message to his benefactor. The situations God's service sometimes puts you in can be very delicate! How hard it must have been for Eli to hear this dire message about his children! The irresponsibility he showed towards God's work became a punishment for his family.

The word is true that says, “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!” (Hebrews 10:31). Eli lived for a while after this punishment was announced, and his family continued to serve as priests for three more generations (1 Samuel 14:3). Ahijah, Eli's great-grandson, served as a priest to King Saul. The period between the prophecy and its fulfillment was 130 years. Eli knew that the prophecy spoken by young Samuel came from God (v. 15-21). All of Israel knew Samuel was a prophet of the Lord (v. 20). This phenomenon marked the transition from revelations through priests and the ephod to revelations through prophets.

It is a new day and a new experience with God in prayer. We will thank our heavenly Father for the calling He has given. The divine calling is for salvation and for service. As we continue in prayer, we will ask God for the strength to repent and correct ourselves when we have sinned. Eli knew and did not take action. He acknowledged, yet he did not rectify in any way the harm he had done.
