Sâmbătă, 3 iunie 2023, Numeri 35:1-34 – Moștenirea lui Levi

Pentru că responsabilitatea primară a leviților era aceea de preoți, de a aduce jertfe, leviții nu primeau în Țara Făgăduinței un teritoriu pe care să-l cultive (Numeri 18:23-24). Totuși, ei au primit 48 de cetăți, cu zonele înconjurătoare ca pășuni pentru turmele și cirezile lor (Levitic 25:32-34).

Șase dintre aceste cetăți trebuiau să servească drept locuri de refugiu pentru persoanele care au comis o crimă nepremeditată (Deuteronom 4:41-43). Această soluție oferea azil acuzatului pentru a nu fi ucis de ,,răzbunătorul sângelui”. Pentru a dovedi vinovăția acuzatului era nevoie de doi martori (Numeri 35:30), după care era responsabilitatea ,,răzbunătorului sângelui” să-l execute pe vinovat (Numeri 35:31-32). Sângele vărsat putea fi ispășit doar printr-o altă moarte. Dacă țara devenea necurată, Dumnezeu nu mai putea locui în mijlocul lor (Geneza 4:10-12).

În această dimineață Îi vom mulțumii lui Dumnezeu pentru sângele ispășitor al Fiului Lui, Isus Christos. Apoi Îi vom cere ca moștenirea noastră să fie roditoare în Împărăția Lui.

Saturday, June 3, 2023: Numbers 35:1-34 – The Levites’ Legacy

Because the primary responsibility of the Levites was that of priests who offered sacrifices, they did not receive a territory in the Promised Land to cultivate (Numbers 18:23-24). However, they were given 48 cities and their surrounding areas as pasturelands for their flocks and herds (Leviticus 25:32-34).

Six of these cities were designated as cities of refuge for individuals who committed unintentional manslaughter (Deuteronomy 4:41-43). This solution provided a sanctuary for the accused, protecting them from being killed by the “avenger of blood.” Two witnesses were necessary to prove the guilt of the accused (Numbers 35:30), after which it was the responsibility of the “avenger of blood” to execute the guilty party (Numbers 35:31-32). The shedding of blood could only be atoned for by another death. If the land became unclean, God could no longer dwell among them (Genesis 4:10-12).

This morning, we will thank God for the redeeming blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. Then we will ask that our legacies would be fruitful in His Kingdom.
