Joi, 28 septembrie 2023, 2 Samuel 1:1-27 – Știrea morții lui Saul

După ce David s-a întors la Țiclag și i-a învins pe amaleciți (2 Samuel 1:1), a primit din partea unui alergător amalecit vestea că Saul și fiii lui, cu excepția lui Is-Boset, au fost uciși. Când David i-a cerut detalii despre moartea lui Saul, amalecitul a spus că el i-a luat viața lui Saul la dorința acestuia. Ca o ironie a sorții, Saul, care a refuzat să anihileze amaleciții, a sfârșit să fie omorât de un amalecit.

David a plâns cu durere moarte a lui Saul, numindu-l în mod repetat ,,unsul Domnului”. David a cerut unui slujitor să-l ucidă pe amalacit pentru că și-a permis să-l omoare pe unsul Domnului.

Cântarea lui David care începe cu vestea morții lui Saul și Ionatan face parte dintr-o formă poetică numită Cântarea Arcului (vers. 19-27).

În această cântare, David începe și încheie cu refrenul ,,Cum au căzut vitejii”, aducându-și aminte de cântecele fetelor israeliene cu ocazia victoriilor lui Saul și David asupra dușmanilor. David a avertizat împotriva răspândirii vestii morții lui Saul și a fiilor lui pentru ca să nu se bucure dușmanii. De asemenea, David elogiază loialitatea prieteniei lui Ionatan și domnia responsabilă a lui Saul care a ridicat nivelul de viață al Israelului (vers. 24).

Fiind timpul rugăciunii, se cade să mulțumim lui Dumnezeu pentru loialitatea prieteniei între oamenii de caracter. David l-a plâns mult pe Ionatan! Apoi, vom continua rugăciunea, cerând Domnului călăuzire și protecție pentru conducători. Vom cere înțelepciune, un duh de sfat și pricepere.

Thursday, September 28, 2023: 2 Samuel 1:1-27 – News of Saul's Death

After David returned to Ziklag and defeated the Amalekites (2 Samuel 1:1), he received news from an Amalekite runner that Saul and his sons, except Ish-Bosheth, were killed. When David asked for details about Saul's death, the Amalekite claimed that he had taken Saul's life at Saul's own request. As an irony of fate, Saul, who had refused to annihilate the Amalekites, ended up being killed by one.

David mourned deeply for Saul, repeatedly referring to him as “the Lord's anointed.” David then commanded one of his men to kill the Amalekite because he had dared to slay the Lord's anointed. David's song that begins with the news of Saul and Jonathan's deaths is part of a poetic form called the Song of the Bow (verses 19-27).

In this song, David begins and ends with the chorus “How the mighty have fallen”, recalling the songs of the Israelite maidens celebrating the victories of Saul and David over their enemies. David warned against spreading the news of the deaths of Saul and his sons, lest their enemies rejoice. In addition, David praised the loyal friendship of Jonathan and the responsible reign of Saul that elevated Israel's standard of living (verse 24).

As it is time for prayer, we should give thanks to God for the loyalty of friendship among people of character. David mourned greatly for Jonathan! Next, we will continue our prayer, asking the Lord for guidance and protection for our leaders. We will seek wisdom, a spirit of counsel, and understanding.
