Miercuri, 28 februarie 2024, Neemia 6:1-19 – Conspirația împotriva lui Neemia și împotriva ridicării zidului

Deși istoricul Iosif Flavius (37-100 d. Cr.) susține că zidul a fost construit în doi ani și patru luni, Biblia spune explicit că zidul a fost terminat în 52 de zile.

Când Sambalat, Tobia, Ghesem și ceilalți dușmani au auzit că zidul fusese finalizat (cu excepția ușilor care urmau să fie puse), și-au pus în gând să-l ucidă sau cel puțin să-l compromită pe Neemia (v. 2, 13). Sambalat și Ghesem l-au invitat pe Neemia să se întâlnească în valea Ono, la aproximativ 40 km depărtare de Ierusalim. Cunoscându-le planul criminal, Neemia i-a refuzat, ei i-au adresat această invitație de patru ori.

Pentru că nu au reușit să-l atragă în cursă, au apelat la o altă metodă – discreditarea. Vrăjmașii i-au trimis lui Neemia o scrisoare deschisă prin care îl acuzau că intenționează să devină împărat și să se răzvrătească împotriva lui Artaxerxe. Neemia a demascat planul lor viclean, spunând public că ei au intenția să-l sperie prin faptul că ridicarea zidurilor îl va ofensa pe regele persan.

Al treilea plan a fost la fel de viclean. Vrăjmașii l-au mituit pe Semaia și acesta l-a chemat pe Neemia sub pretextul că dorește să stea de vorbă cu el în Templu. Neemia a refuzat, înțelegând faptul că, intrând în Templu, va păcătui împotriva lui Dumnezeu (Numeri 3:10; 18:7). Nefiind preot, Neemia nu avea permisiunea, după Lege, să intre în Templu.

Este impresionant faptul că Neemia a învins pentru că a respectat Cuvântul sfânt și a avut încredere în Dumnezeu. Lipsa compromisului și prezența încrederii au fost armele folosite pentru învingerea vrăjmașilor. În fața acestor două virtuți, mulțimea dușmanilor, metodele necinstite și alianțele murdare nu au avut nici un efect asupra lui Neemia. Ideea centrală este că Dumnezeu protejează slujitorii care nu se compromit.

În rugăciunea din această dimineață ne vom ruga ca Dumnezeu să ne ajute să ne încredem în El și să nu ne fie frică de dușmani. De asemenea, ne vom ruga să împlinim Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu așa cum este scris.

Wednesday, February 28: 2024, Nehemiah 6:1-19 – The Conspiracy Against Nehemiah and the Building of the Wall

Although the historian Josephus Flavius (37-100 AD) claims that the wall was built in two years and four months, the Bible explicitly states that the wall was finished in 52 days.

When Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem, and the other enemies heard that the wall had been completed (except for the gates that were yet to be set), they planned to kill or at least discredit Nehemiah (v. 2, 13). Sanballat and Geshem invited Nehemiah to meet in the Ono valley, about 40 km away from Jerusalem. Knowing their murderous plan, Nehemiah refused, and they sent him this invitation four times.

Since they could not lure him into their trap, they resorted to another method – discrediting him. The enemies sent Nehemiah an open letter accusing him of intending to become king and to rebel against Artaxerxes. Nehemiah exposed their cunning plan, publicly stating that their intention was to frighten him by suggesting that the building of the walls would offend the Persian king.

The third plan was equally cunning. The enemies bribed Shemaiah, who then called Nehemiah under the pretext of wanting to speak with him in the Temple. Nehemiah refused, understanding that entering the Temple would constitute a sin against God (Numbers 3:10; 18:7). Since he was not a priest, Nehemiah did not have the permission, according to the Law, to enter the Temple.

It is remarkable that Nehemiah prevailed because he respected the Holy Word and trusted in God. The lack of compromise and the presence of trust were the weapons used to defeat the enemies. In the face of these two virtues, the multitude of enemies, dishonest methods, and dirty alliances had no effect on Nehemiah. The central idea is that God protects servants who do not compromise.

In this morning's prayer, we will pray for God to help us trust in Him and not be afraid of enemies. In addition, we will pray for strength to fulfill the Word of God as it is written.
