Joi, 26 ianuarie 2023, Geneza 24:1-67 – Căsătoria lui Isaac

Această întâmplare subliniază lucrarea providențială a lui Dumnezeu în situațiile în care se găsesc oamenii credincioși. Isaac avea 40 de ani și tatăl său, Avraam, a făcut un plan pentru căsătoria lui, după obiceiul vremii și potrivit profeției mesianice cu privire la ,,sămânța” promisă. Capitolul se împarte în patru secțiuni:

1) Delegarea (1-9). Avraam l-a pus să jure pe Eliezer că va găsi o soție pentru Isaac și nu-l va duce pe fiul său acolo.

2) Încrederea (10-27). Eliezer s-a încrezut în Dumnezeu, s-a rugat și a pus un semn de identificare a fetei ce urma să fie soția lui Isaac. Semnul nu s-a bazat pe întâmplare, ci pe caracterul fetei: harnică, miloasă, respectuoasă, ospitalieră…

3) Biruința (28-59). După o călătorie de 700 de km, Eliezer ajunge în casa Rebecăi, nepoata lui Nahor, fratele lui Avraam. Nu degeaba a fost pomenit numele ei în genealogia lui Nahor (22:23). Fata trebuia să fie din contextul ,,seminței” lui Avraam.  

4) Misiune îndeplinită (60-67). Eliezer se întoarce în Canaan cu Rebeca.

În aceste patru secțiuni sunt prezentate patru persoane care au participat la îndeplinirea acestei misiuni: Dumnezeu l-a inspirat pe Avraam să facă planul, l-a ajutat pe Eliezer să-l realizeze și a călăuzit-o pe Rebeca să accepte. Eliezer ar fi rămas moștenitorul bogățiilor lui Avraam dacă nu găsea o fată pentru Isaac. I-ar fi fost așa de ușor să nu găsească! Totuși, el și-a îndeplinit misiunea cu credincioșie. A fi loial a fost mai important pentru el decât a fi bogat.

Începem cu rugăciune în această dimineață, mulțumindu-I Domnului că Se implică în toate detaliile vieții noastre. Apoi cerem Domnului credincioșie, călăuzire și loialitate în îndeplinirea misiunii pe care o avem înaintea Sa.

Thursday, January 26, 2023: Genesis 24: 1-67 – Isaac’s Marriage

            This incident emphasizes God’s providential work in the situations in which believers find themselves. Isaac was 40 years old and his father, Abraham, had planned for his marriage, according to the customs of the time and according to the Messianic prophecy concerning the promised “seed”. The chapter is divided into four sections:

1)    The delegation (1-9). Abraham made Eliezer swear that he would find a wife for Isaac but would not bring his son along with him.

2)    Trust (10-27). Eliezer trusted in God, prayed, and set a sign by which he would identify the girl who was to be Isaac’s wife. The sign would not be based on chance, but on the young woman’s character: hardworking, merciful, respectful, hospitable…

3)    Victory (28-59). After a 700 km long journey, Eliezer arrives at the house of Rebekah, the granddaughter of Nahor, Abraham’s brother. It was not in vain that her name was mentioned in Nahor’s genealogy (22:23). The girl had to be from the “seed” of Abraham.

4)    Mission accomplished (60-67). Eliezer returns to Canaan with Rebekah.

In these four sections, four persons are presented who participated in the fulfillment of this mission: God inspired Abraham to make the plan, helped Eliezer to carry it out, and guided Rebekah to accept it. Eliezer would have remained the heir to Abraham’s wealth if he had not found a wife for Isaac. It would have been so easy for him to purposely not find! However, he fulfilled his mission faithfully. Being loyal was more important to him than being rich.

We begin with prayer this morning by thanking God for His involvement in all the details of our lives. Then we will ask the Lord for faithfulness, guidance, and loyalty in fulfilling the mission we have before Him.
