Miercuri, 25 ianuarie 2023, Geneza 23:1-20 – Moartea Sarei și cumpărarea unui loc de veci

Prezentarea genealogiei lui Nahor, fratele lui Avraam (22:20-24), vorbește despre ,,sămânța” lui Avraam (poporul evreu promis care va ieși din el): ,,așa va fi sămânța ta” (15:5).

În capitolul 23, moartea Sarei la vârsta de 127 de ani îl împinge pe Avraam să conștientizeze că el nu are nicio proprietate în Canaanul promis de Dumnezeu. În felul acesta, Avraam cumpără prima bucată de pământ în Canaan de la fiii lui Het cu 400 de sicli de argint (v. 16). Aceasta vorbește țara. Dumnezeu i-a vorbit deseori lui Avraam despre o sămânță (un popor care va ieși din el) și o țară (care să fie a lui și a poporului care va ieși din el).

Începând cu Geneza 13:16, Dumnezeu i-a vorbit de multe ori lui Avraam despre sămânță (15:5, 13; 17:7, 9-10, 19; 19:32, 34, 21:12-13; 22:17-18). De asemenea, Dumnezeu i-a vorbit deseori despre țară (12:1, 5-7, 10; 13:1, 3, 7, 9-10, 12, 15, 17; 15:7, 13). ,,După aceea, Avraam a îngropat pe Sara, nevastă-sa, în peștera din ogorul Macpela, care este față în fațăa cu Mamre, adică Hebron, în țara Canaan” (23:19).

În cei 25 de ani de așteptare a seminței/copilului promis, Avraam a avut nevoie să fie deseori reasigurat de Dumnezeu în legătură cu sămânța/poporul și țara/Canaanul promise. Sara a murit în Canaan după ce din ea ieșise sămânța promisă, Isaac. După 62 de ani de când veniseră în Canaan, promisiunea lui Dumnezeu cu Avraam și Sara a început să prindă contur: ,,o țară” și ,,un popor din tine”. Mai rămăsese un lucru neîmplinit: ,,…îți voi face un nume mare” (12:2).

Când a negociat cumpărarea pământului de la fiii lui Het, aceștia i-au spus lui Avraam următoarele cuvinte: ,,Ascultă-ne, domnule! Tu ești ca un domnitor al lui Dumnezeu în mijlocul nostru…” (v. 6). Avraam era venetic (nou venit) între ei, însă felul în care a trăit a câștigat admirația lor, astfel încât l-au văzut ca pe ,,un domnitor al lui Dumnezeu” în mijlocul lor.

În această dimineață vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru că la vremea potrivită Își împlinește față de noi promisiunile făcute. Apoi vom continua rugăciunea cerând Domnului puterea de a trăi în mijlocul oamenilor ca niște ,,domnitori ai lui Dumnezeu”.

Wednesday, January 25, 2023: Genesis 23:1-20 – Sarah’s Death and Buying an Eternal Place

            The presentation of the genealogy of Nahor, Abraham’s brother (22:20-24), speaks of Abraham’s “seed” (the Jewish people who would descend from him), “so shall your descendants [or seed] be” (15:5).

            In chapter 23, Sarah’s death at the age of 127 pushes Abraham to realize that he has no property in the promised land of Canaan. And so, Abraham buys his first land in Canaan from the sons of Heth with 400 shekels of silver (v. 16). This speaks of the land. God often spoke to Abraham about descendants (a people who would come from him) and a nation (a nation that would belong to him and the people who would descend from him).

            Beginning in Genesis 13:16, God spoke many times to Abraham regarding seeds (15:5, 13, 17:7, 9-10, 19:32, 34, 21:12-13, 22:17-18). God also spoke to him about a nation in a land (12:1, 5-7, 10; 13:1, 3, 7, 9-10, 12, 15, 17; 15:7, 13). „And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan” (Genesis 23:19).

            In the 25 years of waiting for the promised child, Abraham needed to sometimes be assured by God regarding the promised seed/people and the nation/Canaan. Sarah died in Canaan after she gave birth to the awaited promised seed, Isaac. 62 years after arriving in Canaan, God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah began to take contour: “a nation” and “a people from you”. There was one thing left unfulfilled: “…I will make your name great” (Genesis 12:2).

            When he negotiated buying the property from the sons of Heth, the sons told Abraham the following words: “Hear us, my lord: You are a mighty prince among us…” (Genesis 23:6). Abraham was newly arrived among them, but his way of life gained him the admiration of those around him so much so that they saw him as “a mighty prince” [of the Lord] among them.

            This morning we will thank God because at the right time He fulfills the promises He has made toward us. Then we will continue our prayer asking the Lord for strength to live amid others as “mighty princes of the Lord”.
