Luni, 25 septembrie 2023, 1 Samuel 29:1-11 – David în tabăra lui Saul

David și oamenii lui, fugind de Saul, au găsit protecție în țara filistenilor. Achiș, fiul Maoc, împăratul Gatului, s-a purtat cu bunăvoință față de David. Armata filisteană era campată la Afec, o trecătoare ce despărțea Munții Samariei de mlaștinile Yarconului. Aici era locul unde, în urmă cu 90 de ani, i-au învins pe Israelieni și au capturat chivotul acestora (4:10-11).

Pe de cealaltă parte, evreii și-au așezat tabăra lângă fântâna orașului Izreel. Acesta fusese locul în care regele Ahab, conducătorul Regatului de Nord în a doua jumătate a secolului al X-lea î. Cr., și-a stabilit reședința, deși capitala oficială era Samaria. Tot în Izreel, profetul Ilie a primit amenințări cu moartea din partea Izabelei, soția păgână a lui Ahab.

Achis i-a cerut lui David și celor 600 de oameni ai lui să-l însoțească la război împotriva evreilor. Ce situație complicată pentru David! Urma să se lupte împotriva propriului popor, ajutându-i pe filisteni, care erau, de fapt, cei mai mari dușmani ai evreilor.

Întâlnim aici două lecții de viață încărcate de dramatism:

1.     Domnitorii filistenilor, când l-au văzut pe David și oamenii lui împreună cu ei, l-au întrebat pe Achis: ,,Ce caută evreii aceștia aici?” (vers. 3). Este interesant să observăm faptul că oamenii din lume știu mai bine decât oamenii credincioși care sunt locurile și lucrurile incompatibile cu oamenii credincioși. David era într-un loc nepotrivit. Deși filistenii i-au acceptat între ei, nu aveau încredere în ei. Este important să înțelegem faptul că, în calitate de oameni ai lui Dumnezeu, noi nu ne putem identifica niciodată cu lumea.

2.     Dumnezeu, în harul Său, îl scapă pe David din această extrem de incomodă situație în care se afla. Domnitorii filisteni îi cer lui Achis să-l trimită pe David acasă. Locul lui David nu era între dușmani, fiind pus în poziția ingrată de a lupta împotriva propriului popor.

Ori de cate ori ne petrecem timpul cu filistenii, de fapt, suntem oponenții lui Dumnezeu. Putem trage două concluzii:

1.     Locul nostru nu este între filisteni decât atunci când le ducem Evanghelia.

2.     Atunci când suntem în pericol, filistenii nu sunt o soluție pentru noi.

Este timpul rugăciunii și vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru că transformă în lecții de viață cele mai negative experiențe ale noastre. Apoi, ne vom ruga lui Dumnezeu să nu purtăm niciodată războaiele filistenilor și nici să nu acceptăm ideea de a lupta alături de ei împotriva poporului lui Dumnezeu.

Monday, September 25, 2023: 1 Samuel 29:1-11 – David in Saul's Camp

David and his men, fleeing from Saul, found protection in the land of the Philistines. Achish, son of Maoc, king of Gath, treated David kindly. The Philistine army was camped at Aphek, a pass that separated the Mountains of Samaria from the marshes of Yarcon. This was the place where, 90 years earlier, they defeated the Israelites and captured their Ark (4:10-11).

On the other side, the Jews set up their camp near the well of the city of Jezreel. This had been the place where King Ahab, leader of the Northern Kingdom in the second half of the 10th century BC, had established his residence, even though the official capital was Samaria. Also in Jezreel, the prophet Elijah received death threats from Jezebel, Ahab's pagan wife.

Achish asked David and his 600 men to accompany him to war against the Jews. What a complicated situation for David! He was to fight against his own people, helping the Philistines, who were, in fact, the greatest enemies of the Jews.

Here we encounter two dramatic life lessons:

1.     The Philistine rulers, seeing David and his men with them, asked Achish, “What are these Jews doing here?” (verse. 3). It's interesting to note that people of the world often know better than the faithful about places and things incompatible with the faithful. David was in the wrong place. Although the Philistines accepted them, they didn't trust them. It's important to understand that as people of God, we can never identify with the world.

2.     God, in His grace, rescues David from this extremely uncomfortable situation. The Philistine rulers ask Achish to send David home. David's place was not among the enemies, in the unpleasant position of fighting against his own people.

Whenever we spend time with the Philistines, we are actually opposing God. We can draw two conclusions:

1.     Our place is among the Philistines only when we bring them the Gospel.

2.     When we are in danger, the Philistines are not a solution for us.

It is time for prayer, and we will thank God for turning our most negative experiences into life lessons. Then, we will ask that we may never bear the wars of the Philistines and never accept the idea of fighting alongside them against the people of God.
