Duminică, 24 septembrie 2023, 1 Samuel 28:1-25 – Războiul cu filistenii

Filistenii s-au hotărât să invadeze Israelul și Achis a cerut lui David să lupte alături de el împotriva evreilor. David s-a aflat într-o situație fără ieșire. Achis, care i-a făcut bine, se aștepta acum la loialitate din partea lui David. Însă cum putea David să lupte împotriva poporului său?

Saul s-a speriat la vestea războiului cu filistenii. L-a căutat pe Domnul să-I ceară sfatul, însă Dumnezeu nu i-a răspuns. Samuel nu mai era în viață. Singura soluție pentru Saul a fost să consulte o femeie din En-Dor care chema morții cu puterea demonilor (7-14). Saul i-a cerut să-l vadă pe Samuel și, după multe ezitări, femeia a acceptat.

Experiența aceasta este greu de înțeles. Samuel a fost cel care a venit la Saul, chemat de femeia care chema morții sau un duh? Iată ce spune Scriptura despre chemarea morților: ,,Să nu vă duceți la cei ce cheamă duhurile morților, nici la vrăjitori: să nu-i întrebați, ca să nu vă spurcați cu ei. Eu sunt Domnul Dumnezeul vostru”. (Leviticul 19:31)

,,Dacă cineva se duce la cei ce cheamă pe morți și la ghicitori ca să curvească după ei, Îmi voi întoarce Fața împotriva omului aceluia și-l voi nimici din mijlocul poporului lui”. (Leviticul 20:6)

,,Să nu fie la tine nimeni care să-și treacă pe fiul sau pe fiica lui prin foc, nimeni care să aibă meșteșugul de ghicitor, de cititor în stele, de vestitor al viitorului, de vrăjitor, de descântător, nimeni care să întrebe pe cei ce cheamă duhurile sau dau cu ghiocul, nimeni care să întrebe pe morți”. (Deuteronom 18:10-11)

Ar fi contrar revelației divine din Scriptură să credem că Dumnezeu i-a dat voie unei necromante să cheme pe Samuel din locul lui de odihnă. Mesajul primit de Saul a fost dezamăgitor. I se imputa faptul că nu a ascultat porunca lui Dumnezeu să distrugă amaleciții. Pentru viața lui de neascultare urma să moară. Saul a plecat trist.

Trecând dincolo de experiența spiritistă a femeii care chema morții, rămânem cu un gust amar din cauza felului greșit în care acest prim împărat al monarhiei evreiești și-a gestionat viața și slujba. Lecția de viață pentru noi este următoarea: pentru absolut tot ce facem în viață, bine sau rău, vom fi la sfârșit răsplătiți sau pedepsiți.

Ne vom ruga acum mulțumind Domnului pentru toate experiențele prin care ne cheamă la pocăință. Apoi ne vom ruga să primim puterea să trăim în sfințenie. Sfințenia este porunca lui Dumnezeu pentru toți oameni.

Sunday, September 24, 2023: 1 Samuel 28:1-25 – The War With the Philistines

The Philistines decided to invade Israel, and Achish asked David to fight alongside him against the Israelites. David found himself in a no-win situation. Achish, who had been kind to him, now expected loyalty from David. But how could David fight against his own people?

Saul was frightened by the news of the war with the Philistines. He sought the Lord for advice, but God did not answer him. Samuel was no longer alive. Saul's only solution was to consult a woman from En-Dor who summoned the dead with the power of demons (7-14). Saul asked to see Samuel, and after much hesitation, the woman agreed.

This experience is difficult to understand. Was it Samuel who appeared to Saul, summoned by the woman who called the dead, or a spirit? Here is what Scripture says about summoning the dead: “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.” (Leviticus 19:31)

“When someone turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, I will set my face against that person and cut them off from their people.” (Leviticus 20:6)

“Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.” (Deuteronomy 18:10-11)

It would be contrary to the divine revelation in Scripture to believe that God allowed a necromancer to summon Samuel from his resting place. The message received by Saul was disappointing. He was blamed for not obeying God's command to destroy the Amalekites. For his disobedient life, he was to die. Saul left in sadness.

Beyond the spiritualist experience of the woman who summoned the dead, we are left with a bitter taste because of the wrong way the first king of the Jewish monarchy managed his life and role. The life lesson for us is this: for everything we do in life, good or bad, we will ultimately be rewarded or punished.

We will now pray, thanking the Lord for all the experiences through which He calls us to repentance. Then, we will pray to receive the strength to live in holiness. Holiness is God's command for all people.
