Miercuri, 24 mai 2023, 25:1-18 – Idolatria Israelului

Este merituoasă atitudinea lui Balaam de a nu blestema poporul lui Dumnezeu la cererea insistentă a regelui Balac, însă comportamentul lui i-a influențat pe evrei înspre cultul lui Baal de la Peor: lăcomie, curvie și idolatrie.

,,Iată, ele (femeile madianite lăsate în viață) sunt acelea care, după cuvântul lui Balaam, au târât pe copiii lui Israel să păcătuiască împotriva Domnului, în fapta lui Peor, şi atunci a izbucnit urgia în adunarea Domnului” (Numeri 31:16).

,,După ce au părăsit calea cea dreaptă, au rătăcit şi au urmat calea lui Balaam, fiul lui Bosor, care a iubit plata fărădelegii” (2 Petru 2:15).

,,Vai de ei! Căci au urmat pe calea lui Cain! S-au aruncat în rătăcirea lui Balaam din dorinţa de câştig! Au pierit într-o răscoală ca a lui Core!“ (Iuda 11).

,,Dar am ceva împotriva ta. Tu ai acolo nişte oameni care ţin de învăţătura lui Balaam, care a învăţat pe Balac să pună o piatră de poticnire înaintea copiilor lui Israel, ca să mănânce din lucrurile jertfite idolilor şi să se dedea la curvie” (Apocalipsa 2:14).

Când poporul Israel se afla la Sitim, evreii au curvit cu femeile moabite. Relațiile sexuale făceau parte din ritualurile fertilității cananite care se practicau în închinarea de la Templele lor. Apropierea de femeile moabite i-a atras pe evrei în apostazie și s-au închinat înaintea lui Baal, idolul lor. Un lider evreu, Zimri, fiul lui Salu, a îndrăznit să vină în tabăra lui Israel cu o femeie madianită. Fineas, fiul lui Eleazar, a intrat în cortul lor și i-a străpuns pe amândoi cu o suliță.

Aceste păcate se întâmplau în perioada în care poporul urma să intre în Canaan. Dumnezeu S-a mâniat atât de tare, încât i-a poruncit lui Moise să-i omoare pe toți cei vinovați. Douăzeci și patru de mii de evrei au murit atunci.

Avem parte de o nouă dimineață și vom mulțumi Domnului pentru că ne-a descoperit voia Sa prin Cuvânt. Apoi, vom contiua să ne rugăm, cerând Domnului puterea să trăim în neprihănire, împlinind cu bucurie poruncile Creatorului.

Wednesday, May 24, 2023: Numbers 25:1-18 – Israel's Idolatry

Balaam's refusal to curse the people of God at King Balak's insistent requests is commendable. However, his behavior influenced the Israelites towards worship of Baal at Peor: greed, sexual immorality, and idolatry.

“They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the Lord’s people.” (Numbers 31:16).

“They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness” (2 Peter 2:15).

“Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion!” (Jude 11).

“Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality” (Revelation 2:14).

When the Israelites were at Shittim, they engaged in sexual immorality with Moabite women. Sexual relations were part of the Canaanite fertility rituals practiced in worship at their temples. The Israelites' association with the Moabite women led them into apostasy, and they worshiped Baal, their idol. A Jewish leader, Zimri, the son of Salu, dared to bring a Midianite woman into the Israelite camp. Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, entered their tent and pierced them both with a spear.

These sins occurred during the period when the people were about to enter Canaan. God was so angry that He commanded Moses to kill all those who were guilty. Twenty-four thousand Israelites died at that time.

We have a new morning, and we will thank the Lord for revealing His will to us through His Word. Then, we will continue to pray, asking the Lord for the strength to live in righteousness, joyfully obeying the commands of our Creator.
