Șaisprezece din cele 27 de versete ale acestui capitol au de-a face cu relațiile dintre oameni (vers. 2-6; 9-11; 13-18; 21-22). De multe ori relațiile sunt mai importante decât realizările. Versetele 2 și 21 vorbesc despre mândria omului care se laudă. Una dintre lecțiile de viață ale acestui capitol este remarcată de versetul 1: ,,Nu te făli cu ziua de mâine, căci nu ştii ce poate aduce o zi!” (vers. 1)

Cel mai bun comentariu la acest proverb este în epistola lui Iacov 4:13-16: ,,Ascultați, acum, voi care ziceți: “Astăzi sau mâine ne vom duce în cutare cetate, vom sta acolo un an, vom face negustorie şi vom câştiga!”, şi nu ştiţi ce va aduce ziua de mâine! Căci ce este viaţa voastră? Nu sunteţi decât un abur, care se arată puţintel, şi apoi piere. Voi, dimpotrivă, ar trebui să ziceţi: “Dacă va vrea Domnul, vom trăi şi vom face cutare sau cutare lucru.” Pe când acum vă făliţi cu lăudăroşiile voastre! Orice laudă de felul acesta este rea.” (Iacov 4:13-16)

Acest verset ne atrage atenția să veghem asupra noastră înșine. Viața cu Dumnezeu trebuie să fie o permanentă stare de veghe. Cine se fălește cu ziua de astăzi, manifestă mândrie, însă el se laudă cu ce are. Cine se fălește cu ziua de mâine manifestă nebunie pentru că ziua de mâine este un timp din viitor și nimeni nu știe dacă va fi în viață și mâine.

Conștientizarea acestei stări de fragilitate îl invită pe om la smerenie, pe de-o parte, și la speranță, pe de cealaltă parte. O dovadă de realism și de mare înțelepciune este să spunem cu umilință în orice situație: ,,Dacă va vrea Domnul, vom trăi şi vom face cutare sau cutare lucru.” (Iacov 4:15b)

Wednesday, October 23, 2024 – Proverbs 27:1-27

Sixteen of the 27 verses of this chapter deal with relationships between people (verses 2-6; 9-11; 13-18; 21-22). Often, relationships are more important than achievements. Verses 2 and 21 speak about a man’s pride when he boasts. One of the life lessons of this chapter is highlighted in verse 1: “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth!” (verse 1).

The best commentary on this proverb is found in the epistle of James 4:13-16: “Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.' Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, 'If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.' As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil.” (James 4:13-16)

This verse draws our attention to watch over ourselves. Life with God must be a constant state of vigilance. Whoever boasts about today manifests pride, but he boasts of what he has. Whoever boasts about tomorrow shows foolishness because tomorrow is a time in the future, and no one knows if they will be alive tomorrow.

The awareness of this state of fragility invites man to humility on one hand and to hope on the other. A proof of realism and great wisdom is to humbly say in any situation: “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:15b)
