Luni, 23 ianuarie 2023, Geneza 21:1-34 – Dumnezeu Își împlinește promisiunile

Pe vremea când locuia cu soția lui, Sara, și cu tatăl său în Haran – Irakul de astăzi – Avraam a fost chemat de Dumnezeu să plece într-o altă țară și din el să facă un popor. La vârsta de 75 de ani, Avraam cu soția sa, Sara, și cu nepotul său Lot, au plecat din Haran spre Canaan, împreună cu turmele lor și aproximativ 100 de robi (Gen. 14:14). La 86 de ani Avraam l-a avut pe Ismael cu Agar, roaba soției sale (Gen. 16). La vârsta de 99 de ani, Dumnezeu a reînnoit față de Avraam termenii legământului încheiat cu el (Gen. 17:2, 4-6). La vârsta de 100 de ani, Avraam a primit moștenitorul așteptat, pe Isaac, copilul promis de Dumnezeu (Gen. 21:1-7). Avraam a așteptat 25 de ani să i se împlinească rugăciunea.

Dintre patriarhi, Isaac a fost cel mai longeviv și singurul al cărui nume nu a fost schimbat, precum și singurul care nu a părăsit Canaanul. Comparativ cu ceilalți patriarhi, povestea lui este cea mai puțin palpitantă.

Isaac a fost credincios lui Dumnezeu. Nu a uitat niciodată cum l-a salvat Dumnezeu de la moarte și a oferit un berbec să fie sacrificat în locul său. El a urmărit exemplul tatălui său, învățând de la Avraam, unul dintre cei mai credincioși oameni din Biblie. Într-o epocă în care poligamia a fost acceptată, Isaac a luat doar o singură soție, pe Rebeca. A iubit-o profund toată viața.

Începem această zi mulțumindu-I lui Dumnezeu pentru promisiunile împlinite. Continuăm rugăciunea cerând Domnului discernământul și puterea de a folosi pentru împlinirea intereselor lui Dumnezeu darurile promise și oferite.

Monday, January 23, 2023: Genesis 21:1-34 – God Fulfills His Promises

            During the time that he was living with his wife Sarah and his father in Harran – modern-day Iraq – God called Abraham to go to another land so that He would make a nation out of him. At the age of 75, Abraham, together with his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot, left Harran and set out to Canaan, along with their flocks and approximately 100 slaves (Genesis 14:14). At the age of 86, Abraham had Ishmael with Hagar, his wife’s slave (Genesis 16). At 99, God renewed the terms of his covenant with Abraham (Genesis 17:2, 4-6). At the age of 100, Abraham received the long-awaited heir, Isaac, the child God had promised (Genesis 21:1-7). Abraham waited 25 years for his prayer to be answered.

            Among the patriarchs, Isaac was the longest-living and the only one whose name was not changed, as well as the only one who did not leave Canaan. Compared to the other patriarchs, his story is the least exciting.

            Isaac was faithful to the Lord. He never forgot how the Lord saved him from death and offered a ram to be sacrificed in his place. He followed his father’s example, learning from Abraham, one of the most faithful men in the Bible. In an era when polygamy was accepted, Isaac had only one wife, Rebecca. He loved her profoundly his entire life.

            We will begin today by thanking God for fulfilled promises. We will continue our prayer asking the Lord for the discernment and strength to use the gifts He promises and offers, for the fulfillment of God’s interests.
