Vineri, 23 februarie 2024, Neemia 1:1-11 – Rugăciunea lui Neemia

În Biblia evreilor, cărțile Ezra și Neemia sunt o singură carte, deoarece amândouă descriu

restaurarea spirituală, morală și fizică a Ierusalimului. Dacă va fi credincios lui Dumnezeu, poporul evreu va fi binecuvântat. Dacă va fi necredincios, Dumnezeu îl va lăsa să fie dus în captivitate de marile imperii ale vremii. Capitolul 28 din cartea Deuteronom vorbește despre binecuvântări și blesteme, adică despre a fi răsplătit sau pedepsit. Nu este o noutate pentru nimeni că tot ce facem în viață are consecințe.

Exilul babilonian a semnat actul de deces al limbii ebraice vechi, deoarece poporul născut în robie și-a însușit limba cu caractere aramaice. Neemia a fost unul dintre evreii rămași în diaspora atunci când împăratul Cir a dat evreilor decretul de întoarcere în Iuda. În timp ce ocupa funcția de paharnic al împăratului Artarxerxes, o poziție de onoare și de mare influență asupra deciziilor imperiale, a primit vești de la un grup de evrei veniți din Iuda. Unul dintre ei era Hanani, fratele lui Neemia. Vestea l-a întristat peste măsură pe Neemia deoarece a aflat că evreii din Ierusalim sunt acoperiți de rușine și necaz. Zidurile cetății sunt dărâmate și porțile sunt arse de foc.

Asemenea lui Daniel și Ezra, Neemia a șezut jos și a plâns (Ezra 10:1). El s-a rugat cu lacrimi și s-a pocăit înaintea Domnului, mărturisind păcatele poporului său (v. 5-11). Este impresionant să constatăm faptul că, oricât de jos poate ajunge poporul Său, Dumnezeu are o soluție prin care urmează să-l ajute și să-l restaureze. Întotdeauna este cineva care urmează să fie folosit de Dumnezeu pentru ridicare, sfătuire și mângâiere.

Să ne asumăm noi această responsabilitate și să devenim lucrători cu Dumnezeu, prin post și rugăciune! Să ne rugăm Domnului în această dimineață să ne dea duh de rugăciune și putere să deprindem disciplinele spirituale. Să ne amintim că atunci când ne rugăm, Dumnezeu ne ascultă prin minuni: ,,În bunătatea Ta, Tu ne asculţi prin minuni, Dumnezeul mântuirii noastre, nădejdea tuturor marginilor îndepărtate ale pământului şi mării!” (Psalm 65:5)

Friday, February 23, 2024: Nehemiah 1:1-11 – The Prayer of Nehemiah

In the Hebrew Bible, the books of Ezra and Nehemiah are one book, as both describe the spiritual, moral, and physical restoration of Jerusalem. If the Jewish people were faithful to God, they would be blessed. If they were unfaithful, God would allow them to be taken into captivity by the great empires of the time. Chapter 28 of the book of Deuteronomy talks about blessings and curses, meaning being rewarded or punished. It is not news to anyone that everything we do in life has consequences.

The Babylonian exile marked the death of the old Hebrew language, as the people born in a foreign land adapted the language with Aramaic characters. Nehemiah was one of the Jews who remained in the diaspora when King Cyrus issued the decree for the Jews to return to Judah. While he was serving as cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, a position of honor and great influence over imperial decisions, he received news from a group of Jews who had come from Judah. One of them was Hanani, Nehemiah's brother. The news deeply saddened Nehemiah because he found out that the Jews in Jerusalem were covered in shame and trouble. The city walls were broken down, and its gates were burned with fire.

Like Daniel and Ezra, Nehemiah sat down and wept (Ezra 10:1). He prayed with tears and repented before the Lord, confessing the sins of his people (v. 5-11). It is impressive to note that, no matter how low His people may fall, God has a solution through which He intends to help and restore them. There is always someone who is to be used by God for upliftment, counsel, and comfort.

Let us take on this responsibility and become co-workers with God, through fasting and prayer! Let us pray to the Lord this morning to give us a spirit of prayer and the strength to practice spiritual disciplines. Let us remember that when we pray, God listens to us through miracles: “In Your goodness, You answer us with awesome deeds, God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and the farthest seas!” (Psalm 65:5)
