 Vineri, 22 septembrie 2023, 1 Samuel 26:1-25 – A doua ocazie a lui David de a-l ucide pe Saul

Saul a fost informat unde este ascuns David și, însoțit de 3000 de oameni, au mers în pustia Zif, pe dealul Hachila. David a aflat unde este tabăra lui Saul și, în timpul nopții, însoțit de Abisai, fratele lui Ioab, au intrat în cortul lui Saul care dormea. Viteazul Abner și alți soldați dormeau în jurul cortului. Abisai i-a cerut permisiunea lui David să-l ucidă pe Saul, însă David l-a oprit. Ca și data trecută, când a fost în peștera En-Ghedi, David l-a cruțat pe Saul. I-a luat doar sulița și ulciorul cu apă și au plecat.

După ce au ajuns de partea cealaltă a prăpastiei, David a strigat la Abner și, ironic, l-a mustrat pentru că nu și-a făcut datoria de paznic al împăratului. Saul a conștientizat că a fost din nou în mâna lui David și, fiind rușinat de caracterul acestuia, s-a pocăit din nou, cerându-și iertare.  

Este timpul rugăciunii și vom mulțumi Domnului pentru multele șanse pe care ni le oferă în viață cu scopul îndreptării și pocăinței. Câte șanse i-a dat lui Saul să se pocăiască! Dumnezeu a fost bun și credincios cu el. Îi mulțumim lui Dumnezeu că, în ciuda imperfecțiunilor și slăbiciunilor noastre, ne dă har peste har, primindu-ne pocăința și oferindu-ne iertare. Apoi vom cere de la Dumnezeu maturitatea de a nu ne folosi puterea – puterea fizică, puterea financiară, puterea poziției pe care o avem… David l-a avut în mână pe Saul pentru a doua oară. A avut puterea să-l omoare, însă nu a folosit-o. Trebuie să fi avut un caracter sfânt acest bărbat!

Friday, September 22, 2023: 1 Samuel 26:1-25 – David's Second Opportunity to Kill Saul

Saul was informed about David's hiding place and accompanied by 3,000 men, they went to the desert of Ziph, on the hill of Hakilah. David learned about Saul's camp's location and, during the night, accompanied by Abishai, Joab's brother, they entered Saul's tent while he was asleep. Brave Abner and other soldiers were sleeping around the tent. Abishai asked David for permission to kill Saul, but David stopped him. As on the previous occasion when he was in the cave of En-Gedi, David spared Saul. He only took his spear and water jar and left.

After reaching the other side of the gorge, David shouted to Abner and, ironically, scolded him for not fulfilling his duty as the king's guard. Saul realized he was once again at David's mercy, and feeling ashamed because of David's character, he repented again, asking for forgiveness.

It's prayer time, and we will thank the Lord for the many chances He gives us in life for the purpose of righteousness and repentance. He gave Saul so many chances to repent! God was good and faithful to him. We thank God that, despite our imperfections and weaknesses, He bestows grace upon grace, accepting our repentance and offering forgiveness. We will then ask God for the maturity not to misuse our power – be it physical strength, financial power, or the positions we hold… David had Saul at his mercy for a second time. He had the power to kill him but did not use it. Such a holy character this man must have had!
