Sâmbătă, 21 ianuarie 2023, Geneza 19:1-38 – Puritatea protejează, păcatul expune

Doi îngeri ajung la Sodoma. Fiind la poarta Sodomei, Lot îi invită să găzduiască la el. Diferit de Avraam care le-a spus că cineva le va spăla picioarele, Lot le spune că își pot spăla singuri picioarele. Potrivit normelor de ospitalitate orientală, diferența dintre Avraam și Lot este evidentă.

După cină se pregăteau de culcare, însă la poartă au venit o mulțime de bărbați tineri și mai bătrâni care i-au cerut lui Lot să-i scoată pe cei doi oaspeți afară pentru ,,a se împreuna cu ei”. Lot i-a rugat să nu facă o astfel de faptă murdară, ba chiar le-a oferit alternative. Ei însă au devenit amenințători și violenți.

Este important să observăm comportamentul abuziv și amenințător. Nu ne vom opri acum asupra eticii acestui gen de relații, ci vom remarca cu ușurință asocierea acestui gen de relații cu  abuzul, violența și constrângerea împotriva voinței. Ce s-a întâmplat în Sodoma atunci nu ar trebui să se mai întâmple vreodată. Doar intervenția divinității pune capăt conflictului. Sentința pronunțată este în acord cu intensitatea vinovăției faptelor: orbire și moarte. Trebuie să acceptăm că Sodoma nu este doar simbolul unui alt gen de relații, ci și este simbolul violenței, al exploatării și constrângerii împotriva propriei voințe.

În dimineața aceasta începem rugăciunea mulțumindu-I Creatorului pentru stilul de viață pur și demn al membrilor familiilor noastre. Apoi, vom continua rugăciunea cerându-I lui Dumnezeu resursele necesare pentru a trăi întotdeauna o viață de familie după modelul biblic.

 Saturday, January 21: Genesis 19:1-38 – Purity Protects, Sin Exposes

            Two angels arrive in Sodom. Since he is at the gate of Sodom, Lot invites them to his home so he could host them. While Abraham had told the two that someone else would wash their feet, Lot tells them they could wash their own feet. According to the hospitality norms of the time, the difference between Abraham and Lot is evident.

 After supper, they were preparing for bed, but a multitude of young and old men arrive at Lot’s gate demanding that he bring the two guests outside so they could “have sex with them”. Lot asked them to not do this “wicked thing”, and even offered them an alternative. However, they became threatening and violent.

It is important for us to see their abusive and threatening behavior. We will not spend time discussing this type of relationship right now, but we can easily see the association between this type of relationship with abuse, violence, and coercion. What happened in Sodom then should never happen again. Only divine intervention ends the conflict. The intense punishment and sentence are in accordance with the intensity of the guilt in the acts: blindness and death. We must accept that Sodom is not just a symbol of a different type of relationship but is a symbol of violence, exploitation, and coercion against one’s own free will.

            This morning we will begin our prayer by thanking the Creator for our families’ pure and dignified lifestyles. Then we will continue our prayer asking the Lord for the resources necessary to always live a family life in accordance with the Biblical model.
