Vineri, 20 ianuarie 2023, Geneza 18:1-33 – Avraam mijlocește pentru Sodoma

Stejarii lui Mamre unde Avraam și-a așezat cortul se aflau în Hebron, oraș situat azi în Cisiordania, la aproximativ 35 de kilometri de Ierusalim. Aici a primit vizita celor trei îngeri care au reînnoit promisiunea nașterii fiului făgăduinței. Sara a zâmbit, ca și Avraam în capitolul precedent, fiindu-i greu să creadă că o femeie de 89 de ani o să mai nască.

După ce au plecat cei trei îngeri, Avraam a rămas înaintea Domnului și a mijlocit pentru locuitorii Sodomei. A început rugăciunea de mijlocire cu cincizeci de oameni buni și a încheiat mijlocind pentru zece oameni buni. Dumnezeu a promis că nu va distruge orașul dacă vor fi zece oameni buni în el. Nu au fost nici măcar atâția, pentru că Dumnezeu a distrus Sodoma! Nici măcar zece oameni buni într-o așezare omenească de sute de mii de persoane! Cum ne putem permite să ne mirăm că Dumnezeu a distrus cetatea, dacă nici măcar 10 oameni buni nu erau acolo?

În această dimineață Îi vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru prezența oamenilor buni. Apoi ne vom ruga Domnului ca toți membrii familiilor noastre să fie oameni buni.

Friday, January 20, 2023: Genesis 18:1-33 – Abraham Intercedes for Sodom

            The great trees of Mamre, where Abraham settled his tent, were in Hebron, a city situated in the modern-day West Bank, approximately 35 kilometers from Jerusalem. Here, he received the visit from the three angels who renewed the promise that a son would be born. Sarah smiled, just as Abraham had in the preceding chapter, as it was difficult to believe that an 89-year-old woman would give birth.

After the three angels left, Abraham remained in the presence of the Lord and interceded for Sodom. He began his prayer with fifty people and ended interceding for ten good people. God promised that He would not destroy the city if He could find ten good people in it. But ten good people could not be found because God destroyed Sodom. Not even ten good people in an establishment of tens of thousands of people! How can we allow ourselves to be surprised that God destroyed the city when not even 10 good people could be found there?

            This morning we will thank God for the presence of good people. Then we will pray to the Lord that all the members of our families would be good people.
