Joi, 19 ianuarie 2023, Geneza 17:1-27 – O nouă identitate

Cu un an înainte să se nască Isaac, Dumnezeu a făcut legământul tăierii împrejur cu Avram și i-a schimbat numele în Avraam, numele Saraiei în Sara. Avraam s-a circumcis la vârsta de 99 de ani, iar Ismael, copilul făcut de Agar, s-a circumcis la vârsta de 13 ani. Împreună cu ei au fost circumcise toate persoanele de gen masculin din casa lui Avraam.

Dumnezeu S-a reangajat să facă din poporul care va ieși din Avraam poporul Său, poporul pe care-l va binecuvânta. Circumcizia este semnul legământului cu Dumnezeu pentru evrei. În contextul acestui legământ Avraam și Sara au primit nume noi.

Când Mântuitorul a avut 8 zile, a fost dus de părinți la Templu, a fost circumcis și I s-a pus numele Isus (Luca 2:21). Conform unor părinți ai Bisericii, ziua a 8-a reprezintă tranziția din starea de infantilitate la cea de maturitate a corpului nou-născut. Astfel, pruncul devine copil.

În dimineața aceasta să mulțumim lui Dumnezeu pentru legământul mântuirii prin Isus Cristos. Vom continua rugăciunea cerând de la Dumnezeu puterea să ne sfințim viața și să avem un rod bogat.

Thursday, January 19, 2023: Genesis 17:1-27 – A New Identity

            A year before Isaac was born, God made a covenant of circumcision with Abram, changing his name to Abraham and changing Sarai’s name to Sarah. Abraham was circumcised at the age of 99 and Ishmael, his son from Hagar was circumcised at the age of 13. Along with them, all the males in Abraham’s home were also circumcised.

God recommitted himself to making the people who would descend from Abraham His own people, the people He would bless. Circumcision is the sign of the covenant God made with the Jewish people. In the context of this covenant, Abraham and Sarah received their new names.

When the Savior was 8 days old, He was brought by His parents to the temple, was circumcised and was named Jesus (Luke 2:21). According to some fathers of the Church, the 8^th day of infancy represents the transition from infancy to bodily maturity of the newborn. Thus, the baby becomes a child.

            This morning, let us thank God for the covenant of salvation through Jesus Christ. We will continue praying, asking God for the strength to sanctify our lives and bear rich fruit.
