Vineri, 21 aprilie 2023, Leviticul 19:1-37 – Legile care promovează sfințenia

Motto-ul acestui capitol este versetul 2: ,,Fiți sfinți, căci Eu sunt sfânt…”. El mai vorbește și despre faptul că Dumnezeu a chemat Israelul să fie un popor sfânt (Exod 19:6); despre cinstirea părinților și evitarea idolilor (v. 3-4); despre reguli cu privire la jertfa de mulțumire (v. 5-8); despre o recoltare ineficientă în mod intenționat ca mijloc de protecție socială (v. 9-1).

Comportamentul bun și respectuos față de aproapele are scopul să promoveze și să păstreze armonia și sfințenia între oameni (v. 11-18). Aici este accentuat comportamentul plin de dragoste, bunătate, dreptate și imparțialitate față de cei slabi, săraci, handicapați…

Amestecul și hibridizarea sunt interzise (v. 19). Tunderea părului și tăierea bărbii puteau avea semnificație ocultă (v. 27). De asemenea, tatuajele și automutilarea aveau rolul să alunge spiritele sau erau semne de apartenență la un anumit grup social sau religios (v. 28). Prostituția cultiva imoralitatea socială și spiritismul intra în competiție cu Dumnezeu (v. 29-31). Bătrânii trebuiau cinstiți și străinii respectați. Dreptatea și mila socială erau dovezi ale sfințeniei personale și comunitare  (v. 32-36). Sfințenia nu este pasivitate, ci efort și bunătate pentru binele celorlalți.

O nouă dimineață, o nouă șansă! Vom mulțumi pentru harul de a fi iubiți și ajutați, dar și pentru harul de a iubi și a ajuta. Apoi vom cere de la Dumnezeu harul să promovăm omenia, bunătatea și sfințenia, indiferent de locul și mediul în care ne aflăm. În felul acesta comportamentul nostru va vorbi despre Dumnezeu: ,,Prin aceasta vor cunoaște toți că sunteți ucenicii Mei, dacă veți avea dragoste unii pentru alții” (Ioan 13:35).

 Friday, April 21, 2023: Leviticus 19:1-37 – Laws Promoting Holiness

The motto of this chapter is in verse 2: “Be holy, because I am holy…”. It also speaks that God's calling for Israel is to be a holy people (Exodus 19:6); about honoring parents and avoiding idols (v. 3-4); about rules regarding the thanksgiving offering (v. 5-8); about intentionally leaving some of the harvest for the poor as a means of social protection (v. 9-10).

Good and respectful behavior towards others aims to promote and maintain harmony and holiness among people (v. 11-18). Here, emphasis is placed on behavior full of love, kindness, justice, and impartiality towards the weak, poor, and handicapped…

Mixing and hybridization are prohibited (v. 19). Shaving hair and cutting beards could have had occult significance (v. 27). In addition, tattoos and self-mutilation served to ward off spirits or were signs of belonging to a particular social or religious group (v. 28). Prostitution cultivated social immorality and spiritism competed with God (v. 29-31). The elderly were to be honored and strangers respected. Social justice and mercy were evidence of personal and communal holiness (v. 32-36). Holiness is not passivity but effort and kindness for the good of others.

A new morning, a new chance! We will be thankful for the grace of being loved and helped, but also for the grace of loving and helping. Then we will ask God for the grace to promote humanity, kindness, and holiness, regardless of the place and environment in which we find ourselves. In this way, our behavior will point to God: “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35).
