Sâmbătă, 20 ianuarie 2024, 2 Cronici 15:1-19 – Reformele lui Asa

Profetul Azaria, fiul lui Oded, a venit la regele Asa și l-a îmbărbătat, îndemnându-l să rămână credincios înaintea lui Dumnezeu, continuand să stea departe de practica idolatriei, atât de comună regilor evrei. Regele a luat în serios avertismentul divin adus de profet și, cu multă responsabilitate, a continuat reforma spirituală:

1.     A continuat să distrugă idolii din țară (v. 8).

2.     A strâns poporul și au reînnoit legământul lor cu Dumnezeu. O mare trezire a cuprins națiunea și o puternică reformă morală s-a petrecut în viețile evreilor din Iuda. Exigența împăratului a fost atât de mare, încât i-a interzis mamei lui, Maaca, să mai fie împărăteasă, deoarece își făcuse un idol.

3.     A dres altarul de aramă și a împodobit Templul cu lucrurile închinate Domnului de tatăl lui și de el însuși: aur, argint și vase.

Scriptura menționează că ,,inima lui Asa a fost în totul a Domnului”, chiar dacă în țară mai erau altare păgâne pe înălțimi. Este înspăimântătoare înclinația oamenilor spre idolatrie. Dumnezeu le-a făcut mult bine, i-a scos din robia egipteană, i-a făcut stăpâni în Canaan, le-a dat victorie în nenumăratele războaie purtate cu națiunile autohtone și i-a binecuvântat în toate felurile. În ciuda acestor nenumărate și repetate binecuvântări, în mod absolut inexplicabil, ei se închinau pe dealuri la altarele zeităților păgâne! Câtă nerecunoștință, lipsă de loialitate și omenie, câtă necredință și apostazie!

,,Lăudaţi pe Domnul de jos, de pe pământ, balauri de mare şi adâncuri toate, foc şi grindină, zăpadă şi ceaţă, vânturi năprasnice, care împliniţi poruncile Lui, munţi şi dealuri toate, pomi roditori şi cedri, toţi, fiare şi vite, toate, târâtoare şi păsări înaripate, împăraţi ai pământului şi popoare toate, voievozi şi toţi judecătorii pământului, tineri şi tinere, bătrâni şi copii! Să laude Numele Domnului! Căci numai Numele Lui este înălţat: măreţia Lui este mai presus de pământ şi ceruri. El a înălţat tăria poporului Său: iată o pricină de laudă pentru toţi credincioşii Lui, pentru copiii lui Israel, popor de lângă El. Lăudaţi pe Domnul!” (Psalm 148:7-14)

Cât de adâncă și dureroasă este diferența dintre așteptarea lui Dumnezeu pentru neprihănire și loialitate și răspunsul oamenilor, iresponsabil și idolatru! Doamne, ai milă, Doamne, fie-Ți milă de poporul Tău!

 Saturday, January 20, 2024: 2 Chronicles 15:1-19 – Asa’s Reforms

The prophet Azariah, son of Oded, came to King Asa and encouraged him, urging him to remain faithful before God, continuing to stay away from the practice of idolatry, which was so common among the Jewish kings. The king took the divine warning brought by the prophet seriously and, with great responsibility, continued the spiritual reform:

1.     He continued to destroy the idols in the country (v. 8).

2.     He gathered the people, and they renewed their covenant with God. A great revival enveloped the nation and a powerful moral reform occurred in the lives of the Jews of Judah. The king's insistence was so great that he even forbade his grandmother, Maakah, from being queen because she had made an idol.

3.     He repaired the bronze altar and adorned the Temple with items dedicated to the Lord by his father and himself: gold, silver, and vessels.

The Scripture mentions that “Asa's heart was fully committed to the Lord,” even though there were still pagan altars in the high places in the land. The inclination of people towards idolatry is frightening. God had done so much good for them, brought them out of Egyptian bondage, made them rulers in Canaan, gave them victory in countless wars with the native nations, and blessed them in all ways. Despite these numerous and repeated blessings, in an absolutely inexplicable way, they worshiped on the hills at the altars of pagan deities! What ingratitude, lack of loyalty and humanity, such unbelief and apostasy!

“Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and women, old men and children. Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. And he has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his faithful servants, of Israel, the people close to his heart!” (Psalm 148:7-14)

How deep and painful is the difference between God's expectation for righteousness and loyalty and the irresponsible and idolatrous response of the people! Lord, have mercy, Lord, have mercy on Your people!
