Luni, 20 februarie 2023, Geneza 48:1-22 – Iacov își binecuvântează copiii

            Familiile patriarhilor au avut o ținută spirituală foarte înaltă, iar responsabilitatea și angajamentul acestora pentru împlinirea planului divin a devenit scopul primordial al vieții lor. Un obicei specific patriarhilor a fost să-și binecuvânteze copiii și nepoții (v. 9).

            Iacov s-a îmbolnăvit, iar Iosif cu cei doi fii ai săi, Manase și Efraim, au venit să-l vadă. Iacov, în prezența lor a evocat mila, puterea și îndurarea lui Dumnezeu față de el și de familia lui lărgită. Cei doi nepoți, Manase și Efraim, au văzut cum sufletul bunicului lor era îmbibat de amintiri cu Dumnezeu – o viață sub semnul lui Dumnezeu.

            Iacov le-a dat acestor doi nepoți ai lui rangul de copii ai lui, înlocuindu-i pe Ruben și Simeon, primii doi fii născuți de Lea (1 Cron. 5:1-2). Ca și Isaac, Iacov a dat binecuvântarea când ochii lui erau ,,îngreuiați de bătrânețe”. El s-a rugat pentru cei doi fii ai lui Iosif, doar că a pus mâna dreaptă pe capul lui Efraim și mâna stângă pe capul lui Manase, deși acesta era primul născut. Această nonconformitate a lui Dumnezeu a fost una dintre cele mai grele lecții pe care Iacov a trebuit le învețe. Nonconformismul lui Dumnezeu manifestă suveranitatea, atotcunoașterea și atotputernicia Sa. Lecția pe care a învățat-o Iacov a fost ascultarea și încrederea în Dumnezeu. În patru generații diferite Dumnezeu l-a binecuvântat pe cel mai mic înaintea celui mai mare: (1) Isaac în locul lui Ismael; (2) Iacov în locul lui Esau; (3) Iosif în locul lui Ruben; (4) Efraim în locul lui Manase.

            În binecuvântarea invocată, Iacov a proclamat în trei moduri diferite numele Domnului (v. 15):

1) Dumnezeu a încheiat un legământ cu tatăl și bunicul lui, lucru care i-a întărit credința lui Iacov deseori (28:23; 31:5, 42; 32:9; 46:3).

2) Dumnezeu l-a călăuzit asemenea unui păstor (49:24; Exod 6:6; Ps. 23:1; Is. 59:20).

3) Îngerul Domnului izbăvește de rău (16:7).

            Cu sufletul plin de aceste experiențe și convingeri, Iacov a cerut binecuvântarea lui Dumnezeu peste cei doi nepoți ai săi.

            Astăzi de dimineață vom mulțumi Domnului pentru lecțiile pe care ni le-a predat în viață. Apoi ne vom ruga lui Dumnezeu să ne facă niște patriarhi pentru familiile noastre. Ne vom ruga să ne ajute să cultivăm obiceiul și autoritatea să ne binecuvântăm și să ne influențăm copiii, nepoții și familiile.

Monday, February 20, 2023: Genesis 48:1-22 – Jacob Blesses His Children

The families of the patriarchs had a very high spiritual standard, and their responsibility and commitment to fulfilling God’s plan became the primary purpose of their lives. A specific tradition of the patriarchs was to bless their children and grandchildren (48:9).

Jacob became ill, and Joseph and his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, came to see him. In their presence, Jacob recalled God’s mercy, power, and grace towards him and his extended family. His two grandsons, Manasseh and Ephraim, saw how their grandfather’s soul was filled with memories of God – a life marked by God.

Jacob gave these two grandsons the status of his own children, replacing Reuben and Simeon, the first two sons born to Leah (1 Chronicles 5:1-2). Like Isaac, Jacob gave these blessings when his eyes were “heavy with age.” He prayed for Joseph’s two sons but placed his right hand on Ephraim’s head and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, even though Manasseh was the firstborn. God’s non-conformity was one of the most difficult lessons that Jacob had to learn in his life. God’s non-conformity manifests His sovereignty, omniscience, and omnipotence. The lesson that Jacob learned was obedience and trust in God. In four different generations, God blessed the youngest before the oldest: (1) Isaac instead of Ishmael; (2) Jacob instead of Esau; (3) Joseph instead of Reuben; (4) Ephraim instead of Manasseh.

In the invoked blessing, Jacob proclaimed the name of the Lord in three different ways (verse 15):

1. God had made a covenant with his father and grandfather, which often strengthened Jacob’s faith (28:23; 31:5, 42; 32:9; 46:3).
2. God had guided him like a shepherd (49:24; Exodus 6:6; Ps. 23:1; Is. 59:20).
3. The angel of the Lord delivers from evil (16:7).

With his heart full of these experiences and convictions, Jacob asked for God’s blessing over his two grandsons.

This morning, we will thank the Lord for the lessons He has taught us in life. Then we will ask God to make us patriarchs for our families. We will pray for His help in cultivating the habit and authority to bless and influence our children, grandchildren, and families.
