Duminică, 20 august 2023, Judecători 19:1-30 – Răutatea oamenilor din Ghibea, Beniamin

Capitolul de față demască anarhia, idolatria și nedreptatea socială cauzată de absența unui rege și a unui sistem centralizat de autoritate. Un levit care locuia la marginea muntelui lui Efraim (altul decât levitul din capitolele 17 și 18) și-a luat ca țiitoare o femeie din Betleemul lui Iuda. Țiitoarea a fost infidelă și a hotărât să se întoarcă în casa tatălui ei. Peste patru luni, levitul, însoțit de o slugă, au plecat după țiitoare ca s-o aducă acasă.

După câteva zile petrecute în casa tatălui ei, au pornit spre casa levitului. După ce au trecut de cetatea Iebus (Ierusalimul de azi) s-au grăbit să înnopteze în Ghibea. Un om cu inimă i-a primit în casa și, în timp ce serveau masa, oameni stricați din localitate au venit peste ei și i-au cerut gazdei să-i scoată afară pe musafiri ca să aibă relații intime cu ei. Ei au scos țiitoarea afară, le-au dat-o și ei au batjocorit-o toată noaptea. Dimineața țiitoarea a murit.

Levitul a luat trupul neînsuflețit al țiitoarei și l-a dus acasă, la marginea Muntelui lui Efraim. Acolo i-a tăiat corpul neînsuflețit în 12 bucăți și a trimis câte o bucată în fiecare seminție, cerând răzbunare. Sunt situații când oamenii ajung în starea de bestialitate și devin mai răi decât animalele!

Stăm în fața Domnului și în rugăciunea de dimineață Îi mulțumim pentru că ne-a iertat păcatele cele multe și grele. Apoi Îl vom ruga pe Dumnezeu să ne păstreze mintea curată și duhul treaz. Să avem frică de Domnul și silă față de păcat. Să ne dezvoltam caracterul și să fim oameni la care Dumnezeu privește cu plăcere.

Sunday, August 20, 2023: Judges 19:1-30 – The Wickedness of the Men of Gibeah, Benjamin

This chapter reveals anarchy, idolatry, and social injustice caused by the absence of a king and a centralized system of authority. A Levite who lived on the edge of the mountain of Ephraim (different from the Levite in chapters 17 and 18) took a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah. The concubine was unfaithful and decided to return to her father's house. After four months, the Levite, accompanied by a servant, went after the concubine to bring her back home.

After spending several days in her father's house, they set off for the Levite's home. After passing through the city of Jebus (today's Jerusalem), they hastened to spend the night in Gibeah. A kind-hearted man took them into his home, and while they were having dinner, wicked men from the town came and demanded the host to bring out the guests so they could have intimate relations with them. They sent the concubine out, handed her over, and they violated her all night. By morning, the concubine had died.

The Levite took the lifeless body of the concubine and brought it to his home, on the edge of the Mountain of Ephraim. There he cut her lifeless body into 12 pieces and sent a piece to each tribe, demanding revenge. There are situations when people descend to a state of brutality and become worse than animals!

We stand before the Lord, and in our morning prayer, we thank Him for forgiving our many and grave sins. Then we will ask God to keep our minds pure and our spirit vigilant. May we fear the Lord and be repelled by sin. Let us develop our character and be people with whom God is pleased.
