Roboam s-a dus la Sihem fiindcă Israel venise acolo să-l facă împărat. Poporul l-a chemat pe Iereboam care era în Egipt și împreună i-au cerul lui Roboam să reducă taxele care erau foarte mari. Roboam s-a sfătuit cu bătrânii și apoi cu tinerii. După trei zile, influențat de tineri, a dat un răspuns neînțelept și dictatorial, păstrând taxele așa cum le ridicase tatăl său, Solomon. Roboam l-a trimis pe Adoram să negocieze cu poporul furios, însă ei l-au ucis cu pietre. Roboam a fugit la Ierusalim de mânia poporului. Drept urmare, zece seminții s-au așezat în spatele lui Iereboam și au format Regatul de Nord. Semințiile lui Iuda și Beniamin l-au urmat pe Roboam și au format Regatul de Sud.

Roboam a strâns o armată de o 180.000 de oameni cu intenția să lupte împotriva celor zece seminții nordice. Profetul Semaia a vorbit din partea lui Dumnezeu lui Roboam și fiecare s-a întors acasă.

Principiile și conducerea greșită a lui Ieroboam au condus pe Israel departe de Dumnezeu. În timpul domniei sale, Regatul de Nord a avut trei capitale: Sihemul, Turta și Samaria (14:17; 15:33; 16:23-24). Inima rea și necredincioasă a lui Ieroboam a inspirat poporul spre apostazie religioasă.

Temându-se că Israel se va întoarce la Templul din Ierusalim, Ieroboam a construit doi viței de aur și două sanctuare la Dan și Betel, iar poporul a început să se închine înaintea lor. El a numit preoți care nu se trăgeau din seminția lui Levi, a creat o sărbătoare care să concureze cu Ziua Ispășirii și a contruit o casă pe înălțimi. În nebunia lui, Ieroboam a creat un sistem de închinare paralel cu cel poruncit de Dumnezeu, în ințentia de a ține cele zece seminții departe de Ierusalim și de alternativa împăcării cu cele două seminții din Iuda.

Fiind timpul rugăciunii, vom mulțumim lui Dumnezeu pentru că ne-a ferit de dezbinări. Apoi, vom continua rugăciunea cerând de la Dumnezeu putere și înțelepciune pentru a ține poporul Domnului unit, pentru onoarea lui Dumnezeu și pentru o bună mărturie în comunitate.

Thursday, November 2, 2023: 1 Kings 12:1-33 – The Division of the Kingdom

Rehoboam went to Shechem because Israel had come there to make him king. The people called on Jeroboam who was in Egypt and together they asked Rehoboam to reduce the taxes that were very high. Rehoboam consulted with the elders and then with the young men. After three days, influenced by the young men, he gave a foolish and dictatorial response, maintaining the taxes as his father Solomon had raised them. Rehoboam sent Adoram to negotiate with the angry people, but they stoned him to death. Rehoboam fled from the people's wrath to Jerusalem. As a result, ten tribes sided with Jeroboam and formed the Northern Kingdom. The tribes of Judah and Benjamin followed Rehoboam and formed the Southern Kingdom.

Rehoboam gathered an army of 180,000 men intending to fight against the ten northern tribes. The prophet Shemaiah spoke to Rehoboam on behalf of God, and everyone returned home.

Jeroboam's wrong principles and leadership led Israel away from God. During his reign, the Northern Kingdom had three capitals: Shechem, Tirzah, and Samaria. Jeroboam's wicked and unfaithful heart inspired the people towards religious apostasy.

Fearing that Israel would return to the Temple in Jerusalem, Jeroboam built two golden calves and two sanctuaries in Dan and Bethel, and the people began to worship them. He appointed priests who were not from the tribe of Levi, created a festival to compete with the Day of Atonement, and built a high place. In his folly, Jeroboam established a worship system parallel to that commanded by God, intending to keep the ten tribes away from Jerusalem and away from the possibility of reconciliation with the two tribes of Judah.

It is time for prayer, so we will thank God for protecting us from divisions. Then, we will continue praying, asking God for strength and wisdom to keep the Lord's people united, for God's honor, and for a good testimony in the community.
