Vineri, 19 mai 2023, Numeri 20:1-29 – Moartea Mariei – Apele de la Meriba – Pedepsirea lui Moise

În luna întâi, în cea de-a 14-a zi, poporul a ajuns la Cades. Maria, sora lui Moise și Aaron, a murit și a fost îngropată acolo. Cel mai probabil că Maria a murit în ce de-al 40-lea an al pustiei.

Deși Cades era o zonă cu apă, când poporul a ajuns acolo era uscat. Poporul a început să se certe cu Moise, așa cum le era obiceiul (Exodul 7:1-2; Numeri 14:2-3). L-au acuzat pe Moise că i-a scos din Egipt și i-a adus în acest loc rău. Moise, ca de obicei, a căzut cu fața la pământ și a căutat sfatul lui Dumnezeu în rugăciune. Dumnezeu i-a spus să ia toiagul în mână și să ,,vorbească” stâncii din care va țâșni apa necesară.

Moise era sub presiunea nesfârșitelor nemulțumiri și reproșuri ale poporului și, furios fiind, a vorbit cu asprime și superioritate. În loc să vorbească stâncii, a lovit-o de două ori și a spus poporului: ,,Ascultați, răzvrătiților! Vom putea noi oare să vă scoatem apă din stânca aceasta?” Apa a țâșnit din stâncă, iar poporul și vitele au băut și s-au săturat.

Totul s-a terminat cu bine. Poporul era mulțumit și liniștit. Doar că Dumnezeu avea o problemă cu Moise. L-a chemat și i-a spus: ,,Pentru că n-ați crezut în Mine, ca să Mă sfințiți înaintea poporului, nu voi veți duce adunarea aceasta în țara pe care i-o dau” (v. 12).  Ce pedeapsa aspră! Dumnezeu a trecut cu vederea așa de multe păcate făcute de oamenii din popor, însă lui Moise nu i-a iertat acest (singur) păcat! Cel mai blând om de pe pământ s-a mâniat, și a murit fără să vadă Canaanul pentru care și-a dedicat întreaga viață de 120 de ani…

Poporul a plecat de la Cades și a ajuns la muntele Hor. Acolo, Dumnezeu i-a spus lui Moise că îl i-a pe Aaron acasă. I-a dat instrucțiunile necesare pentru a-l împuternici pe Eleazar care urma să devină Marele Preot după moartea lui Aaron. Acolo, pe vârful muntelui Hor, Aaron l-a îmbrăcat pe Eleazar cu hainele sale și apoi a murit. Moise și Eleazar au coborât de pe munte și poporul a aflat de moartea lui Aaron pentru care a plâns o lună de zile.

Este timpul rugăciunii. Vom mulțumi Domnului pentru legile Sale, pentru dreptatea și descoperirile Sale. Continuăm rugăciunea cerând de la Dumnezeu răbdare, înțelepciune și bunătate în familie și relații. Mai mult, ne rugăm Domnului să ne păstreze credincioși până în clipa plecării.

Friday, May 19, 2023: Numbers 20:1-29 – Miriam’s Death; The Waters of Meribah; Moses' Punishment

In the first month, on the fourteenth day, the people arrived at Kadesh. Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron, died and was buried there. Miriam likely died in the fortieth year of their journey through the wilderness.

Although Kadesh was an area with water, when the people arrived there, it was dry. The people began to argue with Moses, as they usually did (Exodus 17:1-2; Numbers 14:2-3). They accused Moses of bringing them out of Egypt and into this wretched place. Moses, as usual, fell to his face and sought God's guidance through prayer. God told him to take the staff in his hand and “speak” to the rock from which the needed water would gush forth.

Moses was under the constant pressure of the people's endless complaints and reproaches, and in his anger, he spoke harshly and arrogantly. Instead of speaking to the rock, he struck it twice and said to the people, “Listen, you rebels! Must we bring you water out of this rock?” Water gushed out from the rock, and the people and their livestock drank and were satisfied.

Everything ended well. The people were content and at peace. However, God had a problem with Moses. He called him and said, ” Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them” (v. 12). What a severe punishment! God had overlooked so many sins committed by the people, yet He did not forgive Moses for this (sole) transgression! The gentlest man on earth became angry and died without seeing the Promised Land for which he had dedicated his entire 120-year life…

The people left Kadesh and arrived at Mount Hor. There, God told Moses that “Aaron would be gathered to his people”. He gave him the necessary instructions to empower Eleazar, who would become the High Priest after Aaron's death. On the top of Mount Hor, Aaron dressed Eleazar in his garments and then died. Moses and Eleazar descended from the mountain, and the people learned about Aaron's death. They mourned for a month.

It is time for prayer. We will thank the Lord for His laws, His righteousness, and His revelations. We continue our prayer, asking God for patience, wisdom, and kindness in our families and relationships. Moreover, we pray to the Lord to keep us faithful until the moment of our departure.
