Psalmul 19 conține cel mai clar rezumat al doctrinei despre revelația divină din Vechiul Testament. În primele șase versete este prezentată revelația generală. Se numește generală pentru că orice om Îl poate descoperi pe Dumnezeu în creație, în natură.

,,Cerurile spun slava lui Dumnezeu, şi întinderea lor vesteşte lucrarea mâinilor Lui. O zi istoriseşte alteia acest lucru, o noapte dă de ştire alteia despre el. Şi aceasta, fără vorbe, fără cuvinte, al căror sunet să fie auzit: dar răsunetul lor străbate tot pământul, şi glasul lor merge până la marginile lumii” (vers. 1-4).

În versetele 7-10 este prezentată revelația specială. Se numește specială pentru că Dumnezeu Se descoperă oamenilor prin Biblie, cartea pe care a descoperit-o prin cei aproximativ 40 de scriitori ai celor 66 de cărți. Revelația generală este naturală, revelația specială este supranaturală.

,,Legea Domnului este desăvârşită, şi înviorează sufletul; mărturia Domnului este adevărată şi dă înţelepciune celui neştiutor. Orânduirile Domnului sunt fără prihană, şi veselesc inima; poruncile Domnului sunt curate şi luminează ochii. Frica de Domnul este curată, şi ţine pe vecie; judecăţile Domnului sunt adevărate, toate sunt drepte” (vers. 7-9).

În versetele de la 11-14 David explică efectul Legii lui Dumnezeu asupra sufletului său. El se bucură de poruncile divine care i-au schimbat viața. ,,…judecăţile Domnului sunt adevărate, toate sunt drepte. Ele sunt mai de preţ decât aurul, decât mult aur curat; sunt mai dulci decât mierea, decât picurul din faguri. Robul Tău primeşte şi el învăţătura de la ele; pentru cine le păzeşte, răsplata este mare” (vers. 9b-11). Sub influența acestei revelații, David își mărturisește păcatele și se ferește să mai păcătuiască. ,,Cine îşi cunoaşte greşelile făcute din neştiinţă? Iartă-mi greşelile pe care nu le cunosc” (vers. 12).

Când conștiința omului este trezită de Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, omul se judecă și se corectează singur. Nu mai este nevoie să fie supravegheat, amenințat, constrâns și pedepsit pentru că autoritatea divină este în interiorul ființei lui.

Să ne rugăm lui Dumnezeu să ne umple mintea cu Duhul și Cuvântul Său. ,,Atunci voi fi fără prihană, nevinovat de păcate mari.” (vers. 13b)

Psalm 19 contains the clearest summary of the doctrine of divine revelation in the Old Testament. The first six verses present general revelation. It is called general because any person can discover God in creation, in nature.

“ The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.” (verses 1-4).

Verses 7-10 present special revelation. It is called special because God reveals Himself to people through the Bible, the book revealed by approximately 40 writers of the 66 books. General revelation is nature; special revelation is supernatural.

“The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul; The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.” (verses 7-9).

In verses 11-14, David explains the effect of God’s law on his soul. He rejoices in the divine commandments that have changed his life. “… The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” (verses 9b-11). Under the influence of this revelation, David confesses his sins and strives to avoid sinning. “Who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults” (verse 12).

When a man’s conscience is awakened by the Word of God, he judges and corrects himself. He no longer needs to be supervised, threatened, coerced, and punished because divine authority is within his being.

Let us pray to God to fill our minds with His Spirit and Word. “Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression” (verse 13b).
