Deși psalmii au fost scriși cu aproximativ trei mii de ani în urmă, într-o altă cultură și într-o altă zonă geografică, ne regăsim în ei, deoarece nevoile, așteptările, dorințele, luptele și suferințele oamenilor sunt universale.
Psalmul 20 este unul dintre cele mai cunoscute capitole din Biblie, fiind unul dintre cei mai persuasivi și mai binecuvântători dintre toți psalmii.
Înainte să plece la război, regele a mers în sanctuar împreună cu apropiații lui ca să mijlocească înaintea Domnului pentru protecție, victorie și binecuvântare.
Psalmul împarte omenirea în două din punct de vedere al ideologiei vieții:
1. ,,Unii se bizuiesc pe carele lor, alții pe caii lor…” (vers. 7a)
2. ,,…noi ne bizuim pe numele Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru.” (vers. 7b)
De asemenea, psalmistul împarte omenirea în două categorii din punct de vedere al realizărilor vieții:
1. ,,Ei se îndoaie și cad” (vers. 8a).
2. ,,…noi ne ridicăm și rămânem în picioare” (vers. 8b).
Regele David enumeră șapte lucruri pe care muritorii nu le pot evita în viață:
1. ,,necazurile” (vers. 1a)
2. ,,pericol din partea vrăjmașilor” (vers. 1b)
3. ,,lipsurile” (vers. 2a)
4. ,,neajutorarea în fața crizelor” (vers. 2b)
5. ,,sacrificiile pe care trebuie să le facem” (vers. 3)
6. ,,dorințele și nevoile neîmplinite” (vers. 4a)
7. ,,planurile pentru viitor” (vers. 4b)
Psalmistul surprinde șapte trăsături ale perfecțiunii caracterului lui Dumnezeu:
1) Domnul aude (vers. 1) – ,,Să te asculte Domnul.”
2) Domnul apără (vers. 1) – ,,…să te ocrotească Numele Domnului.”
3) Domnul ajută (vers. 2) – ,,Să-ți trimită ajutor.”
4) Domnul sprijinește (vers. 2) – ,,…să te sprijinească din Sion”
5) Domnul păstrează aducerea aminte (vers. 3) – ,,Să-și aducă aminte de toate darurile tale.”
6) Domnul împlinește dorințele (vers. 4) – ,,Să-ți dea ce-ți dorește inima.”
7) Domnul împlinește planurile omului (vers. 4) – ,,…să-ți împlinească toate planurile…”
În încheierea rugăciunii din sanctuar, mulțimea adunată cu regele înaintea lui Dumnezeu s-a rugat în unison: ,,Scapă, Doamne, pe împăratul, și ascultă-ne când Te chemăm” (vers. 9).
Este instructiv faptul că psalmul începe și se încheie cu o cerere pentru ascultarea rugăciunii: ,,Să te asculte Domnul…” (vers. 1) – ,,…ascultă-ne când Te chemăm” (vers. 9).
Asemenea lor atunci, și noi acum vom cere Părintelui ceresc să ne ajute să ne sfințim viața și să ne ajute să fim cât mai roditori în slujirea la care ne-a chemat Dumnezeu.

Although the psalms were written approximately three thousand years ago, in another culture and in another geographical area, we find ourselves in them because the needs, expectations, desires, struggles, and sufferings of people are universal.
Psalm 20 is one of the most well-known chapters in the Bible, and is one of the most persuasive and filled blessing among all the psalms.
Before going to war, the king went to the sanctuary together with his close ones to intercede before the Lord for protection, victory, and blessing.
The psalm divides humanity from the perspective of life ideology:
1. “Some trust in chariots and some in horses…” (verse 7a)
2. “…but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (verse 7b)
Likewise, the psalmist divides humanity into two categories from the perspective of life achievements:
1. “They are brought to their knees and fall…” (verse 8a)
2. “…but we rise up and stand firm.” (verse 8b)
King David lists seven things that mortals cannot avoid in life:
1. “May the Lord answer you when you are in distress…” (verse 1a)
2. “May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.” (verse 1b)
3. “May he send you help from the sanctuary…” (verse 2a)
4. “…and grant you support from Zion.” (verse 2b)
5. “May he remember all your sacrifices…” (verse 3a)
6. “…and accept your burnt offerings.” (verse 3b)
7. “May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.” (verse 4)
The psalmist captures seven traits of the perfection of God's character:
1. The Lord answers (verse 1) – “May the Lord answer you when you are in distress.”
2. The Lord protects (verse 1) – “May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.”
3. The Lord helps (verse 2) – “May he send you help from the sanctuary.”
4. The Lord supports (verse 2) – “…and grant you support from Zion.”
5. The Lord remembers (verse 3) – “May he remember all your sacrifices.”
6. The Lord fulfills desires (verse 4) – “May he give you the desire of your heart.”
7. The Lord fulfills man's plans (verse 4) – “…and make all your plans succeed.”
At the end of the prayer in the sanctuary, the crowd gathered with the king before God prayed in unison: “Lord, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!” (verse 9).
It is instructive that the psalm begins and ends with a request for the hearing of prayer: “May the Lord answer you when you are in distress…” (verse 1) – “…answer us when we call!” (verse 9).
Just like them then, we now will also ask the Heavenly Father to help us sanctify our lives and help us be as fruitful as possible in the service to which God has called us.
