Luni, 19 februarie 2024: Ezra 7:1-28 – Venirea lui Ezra la Ierusalim

Capitolele 7 și 8 prezintă venirea la Ierusalimul, sub conducerea lui Ezra, a celui de-al doilea grup de exilați (v. 7). Călătoria din Babilon până în Ierusalim a durat patru luni. Evenimentele acestea s-au petrecut în timpul domniei lui Artaxerxe în jurul anului 458 î. C.

Ezra este prezentat ca un om integru, un lider echilibrat și ca un învățător de excepție. Istoria parcă se grăbește și 57 de ani sunt înghesuiți în cinci versete (v. 1-5). Templul de la Ierusalim a fost finalizat în anul 415 î. C., în timpul domniei lui Darius I.

În anul 486, Darius a murit și pe tron s-a urcat fiul său, Xerxes (Ahașveroș), care a domnit 20 de ani. După moartea lui Ahasveroș, pentru următorii 40 de ani a domnit fiul său, Artaxerxes, 464-424 î. C.

Ezra a fost un învățător iscusit (v. 6) și s-a bucurat de binecuvântarea lui Dumnezeu și a regelui Artaxerxe. Ezra a adus din partea regelui cantități foarte mari de hrană și bani: o sută de talanți de argint (3,75 tone), o sută de cori de greu (22.000 de litri), o sută de bați de vin (2,200 de litri), o sută de bați de untdelemn și multă sare. Ezra a mulțumit lui Dumnezeu pentru că a deschis inima regelui.

Lecția de viață a acestui pasaj constă în faptul că Dumnezeu pregătește întotdeauna oamenii de care ai nevoie. Este o istorie orchestrată de Dumnezeu în care trebuie doar să pășești prin credință. Toate aceste evenimente se constituie în dovezi ale harului divin. Ele ne iau dreptul să ne temem, să fim iresponsabili și să trăim în medocritate.

Monday, February 19, 2024: Ezra 7:1-28 – Ezra's Arrival in Jerusalem

Chapters 7 and 8 describe the arrival in Jerusalem, under the leadership of Ezra, of the second group of exiles (v. 7). The journey from Babylon to Jerusalem took four months. These events occurred during the reign of Artaxerxes around the year 458 BC.

Ezra is portrayed as an upright man, a balanced leader, and an exceptional teacher. History seems to rush, and 57 years are compressed into five verses (v. 1-5). The Temple in Jerusalem was completed in the year 515 BC, during the reign of Darius I.

In the year 486, Darius died, and his son Xerxes (Ahasuerus) ascended to the throne, reigning for 20 years. After Ahasuerus's death, his son Artaxerxes reigned for the next 40 years, from 464-424 BC.

Ezra was a skilled teacher (v. 6) and enjoyed the blessing of God and King Artaxerxes. Ezra brought very large quantities of food and money from the king: one hundred talents of silver (3.75 tons), one hundred cors of wheat (22,000 liters), one hundred baths of wine (2,200 liters), one hundred baths of oil, and a lot of salt. Ezra thanked God for having moved the king's heart.

The life lesson of this passage is that God always prepares the people you need. It's a history orchestrated by God, where you only need to walk by faith. All these events constitute evidence of divine grace. They take away our right to fear, to be irresponsible, and to live in mediocrity.
