Duminică, 17 septembrie 2023, 1 Samuel 21:1-15 – Fuga lui David la Nob și la Gat

Deși nu se cunoaște locația exactă, cei mai mulți istorici și teologi sunt de părere că localitatea Nob se găsea la nord de Ierusalim. Este dificil de stabilit istoria Cortului Întâlnirii după ce chivotul a fost capturat de filisteni în anul 1104 î. Cr. și așezat la Chiriat-Iearim (1 Samuel 7:2).

După cum David și Samuel au fugit de Saul la Rama (19:18), tot așa, David a fugit acum la Nob să scape de mânia lui Saul. Fiind flămând, David a cerut de mâncare lui Ahimelec, preotul din Nob. Acesta i-a dat lui David și oamenilor lui din pâinile care erau puse înaintea Domnului. În timp ce se afla la Nob, David a fost depistat de Doeg, un spion edomit care era în slujba lui Saul. Anticipând cî Saul va afla că se ascunde la Nob, David a luat sabia lui Goliat care era ascunsă printre hainele preoților și a fugit cu oamenii săi la Gat, cetatea lui Goliat, eroul filistenilor. Ce ironie! David a trebuit acum să se ascundă în Got, orașul celui pe care îl omorâse cu mulți ani în urmă (Goliat), pentru a-i scăpa viață celui care acum încerca să-l omoare (Saul). Cât de imprevizibilă estre viața! Cât de imprevizibili sunt oamenii!

Fiind recunoscut de Achis, împăratul Gatului, David s-a prefăcut nebun și astfel a scăpat de răzbunarea filistenilor. Potrivit mentalității vremii de atunci, un om nebun era purtătorul răului și nimeni nu omora un astfel de om pentru a nu-i provoca pe zeii răi.

Dacă ne gândim la groaza prin care a trecut David ascunzându-se de Saul în orașul în care locuia familia lui Goliat pe care el îl omorâse, atunci înțelegem de ce în cartea Psalmilor cere cu atâta pasiune ajutorul și mila lui Dumnezeu. Pentru că Dumnezeu a fost/este bun și credincios, l-a scăpat pe David cu viață.

Fiindcă în același fel ne-a scăpat Dumnezeu și pe noi de nenumărate ori, se cuvine în rugăciunea din această dimineață să ne închinăm la picioarele Domnului și să-I mulțumim cu recunoștință. Continuând rugăciunea, vom cere de la Domnul milă și protecție peste noi și casele noastre.  Încrederea deplină în bunătatea și credincioșia lui Dumnezeu aduce o deplină stare de bucurie, liniște și pace. Nu putem controla pacea socială, însă putem controla pacea și liniștea din inima noastră.

Sunday, September 17, 2023: 1 Samuel 21:1-15 – David's Flight to Nob and Gath

Although its exact location is unknown, most historians and theologians believe that the town of Nob was located north of Jerusalem. It is difficult to determine the history of the Tabernacle after the ark was captured by the Philistines in 1104 BC and placed in Kiriath-Jearim (1 Samuel 7:2).

Just as David and Samuel fled from Saul to Ramah (19:18), so David then fled to Nob to escape Saul's wrath. Being hungry, David asked Ahimelech, the priest of Nob, for food. He gave David and his men from bread that was set before the Lord. While in Nob, David was spotted by Doeg, an Edomite spy in Saul's service. Anticipating Saul's discovery of his hiding place in Nob, David took Goliath's sword which was hidden among the priests' robes and fled with his men to Gath, Goliath's city, the hero of the Philistines. What irony! David now had to hide in Gath, the city of the man he had killed many years ago (Goliath), to save his life from the one now trying to kill him (Saul). How unpredictable life is! How unpredictable people are!

When he was recognized by Achish, the king of Gath, David pretended to be insane and thus escaped the vengeance of the Philistines. According to the mindset of that time, an insane person was considered an omen of evil, and no one would kill such a person, fearing the wrath of the malevolent gods.

Thinking of the horror David went through, hiding from Saul in the city where the family of Goliath, whom he had killed, lived, we can understand why in the Book of Psalms he passionately asks for God's help and mercy. Because God was/is good and faithful, He spared David's life.

Since God has saved us countless times in a similar way, it is fitting in this morning's prayer to kneel before the Lord and thank Him with gratitude. As we continue our prayer, we will ask the Lord for mercy and protection over us and our homes. Complete trust in God's kindness and faithfulness brings a full sense of joy, calm, and peace. We cannot control societal peace, but we can control the peace and tranquility in our hearts.
