Sâmbătă, 16 septembrie 2023, 1 Samuel 20:1-42 – Ionatan îl ajută pe David

Ionatan a devenit un ambasador al lui David, însă prețul plătit a fost tensionarea relației cu tatăl său. Ionatan a făcut un legământ cu David, asumându-și faptul că Dumnezeu îi va da tronul în viitor. Apoi, el și David au convenit asupra unui semn prin tragerea săgeților, în felul acesta David va ști de la Ionatan dacă Saul avea de gând să-l omoare sau nu.

Mesajul a fost negativ. Nebunia regelui Saul este ireconciliabilă. David trebuia să plece pentru a-și scăpa viața. S-au întâlnit în ascuns pe câmp și au plâns împreună unul pe umărul celuilalt. Privindu-l pe Ionatan suntem copleșiți să vedem câtă diferență face caracterul, omenia, demnitatea și teama de Domnul!

În același timp, privindu-l pe Saul, suntem îndurerați să vedem cât de jos îl poate conduce invidia și gelozia pe un om! Chiar și pe un rege! Măreția sau nebunia este la un pas de fiecare muritor. Totul depinde de felul în care omul își gestionează așteptările, dorințele, dar și succesul celor din jur.

Saul avea tronul, avea armata, avea toate resursele naționale, însă ura lui față de David nu-i permitea să se bucure de nimic. Tot timpul vorbea împotriva lui (30-32). Nu i-a păsat de efectul comportamentului său asupra propriului lui copil. Singurul motiv pentru care mai trăia era să-l omoare pe David. Singura vină a lui David era bunătatea, omenia, prezența și ajutorul Domnului în viața sa.

Urmează să căutăm fața Domnului în rugăciune. Îi vom mulțumi Domnului pentru că ne dezvoltă caracterul prin încercările și provocările vieții. Apoi, Îi vom cere Domnului înțelepciunea pentru a înțelege faptul că nu putem controla pe nimeni altcineva în afară de propria noastră viață. De aceea, indiferent ce aleg alții să facă cu viața lor și indiferent cum se vor comporta față de noi, noi vom alege să ne temem de Dumnezeu, să avem inima curată, să iubim și să iertăm.

Saturday, September 16, 2023: 1 Samuel 20:1-42 – Jonathan Helps David

Jonathan became an ambassador for David, but the price he paid for this was a strained relationship with his father. Jonathan made a covenant with David, acknowledging that God would give him the throne in the future. Then, he and David agreed upon a sign involving the shooting of arrows, through which David would learn from Jonathan if Saul intended to kill him or not.

The message was grim. King Saul's madness was irreconcilable. David had to leave to save his life. They secretly met in a field and wept on each other's shoulders. Observing Jonathan, we are overwhelmed to see the vast difference character, humanity, dignity, and fear of the Lord can make!

At the same time, looking at Saul, we are grieved to see how far down envy and jealousy can bring a person- even a king! Greatness or madness is just a step away for every mortal. It all depends on how one manages their expectations, desires, and the success of those around them.

Saul had the throne, the army, and all the national resources, but his hatred towards David would not allow him to enjoy anything. He constantly spoke against David (vv. 30-32). He didn't care about the impact of his behavior on his own child. His sole purpose of living was to kill David. David's only fault was his kindness, humanity, and the presence and help of the Lord in his life.

It is time to seek the Lord in prayer. We will thank the Lord for developing our character through life's trials and challenges. Then, we'll ask for wisdom to understand that we cannot control anyone other than ourselves. Therefore, no matter what others choose to do with their lives and how they behave towards us, we will choose to fear God, have a pure heart, love, and forgive.
