Luni, 17 iulie 2023, Iosua 9:1-27 – Alianța cu gabaoniții

După victoria dublă de la Ierihon și Ai, șase națiuni s-au unit ca să lupte împotriva lui Iosua și a lui Israel. Gabaoniții au înșelat poporul Israel, simulând că vin dintr-o țară îndepărtată, cu toate că erau vecini. Știind că nu pot învinge militar poporul evreu, au încercat să încheie un tratat de pace cu ei, dându-se drept niște călători obosiți și flămânzi care aveau pâine mucegăită, burdufuri rupte și cârpite, haine vechi și încălțăminte veche și cârpită.

Iosua și conducătorii evreilor nu au întrebat pe Domnul; au crezut înscenarea gabaoniților și au făcut legământ cu ei. Peste trei zile Israelul a aflat că fusese păcălit de gabaoniți. Poporul a propus să-i omoare, în ciuda legământului făcut, însă Iosua și conducătorii poporului nu au acceptat, fiindcă juraseră pe numele lui Dumnezeu (v. 15).

Deși evreii și-au respectat legământul făcut, i-au pedepsit pe gabaoniți la sclavie permanentă pentru viclenie și lipsa lor onestitate. Această sclavie va presupune efectuarea muncii de tăiat lemne și scos apă pentru israelieni.

Urmează să ne rugăm, mulțumind Domnului pentru că demască planurile diavolului. Apoi, ne vom ruga cerând lui Dumnezeu călăuzire și descoperire pentru a fi vigilenți și pentru a nu ne asuma cu ușurătate hotărâri pe care vom fi obligați să le împlinim în paguba noastră.

Monday, July 17, 2023: Joshua 9:1-27 – The Alliance With the Gibeonites

Following the two victories at Jericho and Ai, six nations united to fight against Joshua and Israel. The Gibeonites deceived the people of Israel, pretending to come from a distant country, even though they were neighbors. Knowing they couldn't militarily defeat the Jewish people, they attempted to garner a peace treaty with them, posing as weary and hungry travelers carrying moldy bread, broken and patched wine skins, old clothes, and old patched shoes.

Joshua and the leaders of the Jews did not consult the Lord; they believed the Gibeonites' ruse and made a covenant with them. Three days later, Israel found out they had been fooled by the Gibeonites. The people wanted to kill them, despite the covenant made, but Joshua and the leaders of the people did not agree, because they had sworn in God's name (v. 15).

Although the Jews honored the covenant they made, they sentenced the Gibeonites to permanent slavery for their cunning and dishonest maneuverings. This servitude would involve chopping wood and drawing water for the Israelites.

We will pray today, thanking the Lord for exposing the devil's plans. Then, we ask God for guidance and revelation to be vigilant and to not hastily make decisions that we will be obliged to fulfill to our detriment.
