Luni, 17 februarie 2025, Ieremia 26:1-24

Capitolul 26 este împărțit în câteva secțiuni:

1.     Mesajul lui Ieremia este contestat de oameni (vers. 1-6).

2.     Ieremia este arestat și judecat (vers. 7-15).

3.     Profetul este eliberat (vers. 16-24).

Este surprinzător faptul că poporul și căpeteniile l-au apărat pe Ieremia de ura profeților mincinoși și a preoților. Conducătorii administrativi l-au apărat pe profet de ura conducătorilor spirituali, preoții și prorocii.

Capitolul 26 precizează câteva principii care ne vor ajuta să înțelegem caracterul lui Dumnezeu și voia Sa pentru oameni:

1.     Dumnezeu așteaptă loialitate și ascultare deplină din partea oamenilor: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Stai în curtea Casei Domnului şi spune acelora care vin din toate cetăţile lui Iuda să se închine în Casa Domnului, toate cuvintele pe care-ţi poruncesc să li le spui; nu lăsa niciun cuvânt din ele.” (vers. 2) Slujitorul trimis de Dumnezeu cu un mesaj trebuie să spună doar ce i-a spus Dumnezeu să spună.

2.     Dacă omul se pocăiește, Dumnezeu îl iartă: „Poate că vor asculta şi se va întoarce fiecare de la calea lui cea rea; atunci Mă voi căi de răul pe care mă gândisem să li-l fac din pricina răutăţii faptelor lor.” (vers. 3) Dumnezeu știe că nu mai putem da ziua de ieri înapoi pentru a evita păcatul pe care l-am făcut, dar putem s-o folosim pe cea de astăzi pentru a ne căi de păcatul de ieri.

3.     Neascultarea omului întrerupe relația cu Dumnezeu: „Dacă nu ascultaţi cuvintele robilor Mei proroci pe care vi-i trimit, pe care vi i-am trimis dis-de-dimineaţă şi pe care nu i-aţi ascultat, atunci voi face Casei acesteia ca lui Silo şi voi face din cetatea aceasta o pricină de blestem pentru toate neamurile pământului.” (vers. 5-6)

4.     Omul nu-I permite nici lui Dumnezeu să-i spună că este rău: „Preoţii, prorocii şi tot poporul au auzit pe Ieremia rostind aceste cuvinte în Casa Domnului. Şi, când a isprăvit de spus Ieremia tot ce-i poruncise Domnul să spună întregului popor, preoţii, prorocii şi tot poporul au pus mâna pe el şi au zis: „Trebuie să mori negreşit! Pentru ce proroceşti în Numele Domnului şi zici: ‘Casa aceasta va ajunge ca Silo şi cetatea aceasta va fi pustiită şi lipsită de locuitori’?” Tot poporul s-a îngrămădit în jurul lui Ieremia în Casa Domnului.” (vers. 7-9) Pentru că nu au vrut să primească mesajul, s-au răzbunat pe mesager. Preoții, prorocii și căpeteniile s-au unit împotriva lui Ieremia cu intenția să-l omoare.

5.     Copilul educat de părinți responsabili va ajunge un om de caracter: „Totuşi mâna lui Ahicam, fiul lui Şafan, a fost cu Ieremia, şi el n-a lăsat să fie dat pe mâna poporului ca să fie omorât.” (vers. 24) Șafan, tatăl lui Ahicam, a fost secretarul regelui Iosia care a găsit Cartea Legii în Templul Domnului, care fusese părăsit și închis (2 Regi 22:3-13).

Monday, February 17, 2025 – Jeremiah 26:1-24

Chapter 26 is divided into several sections:

1. Jeremiah’s message is contested by the people (verses 1-6).
2. Jeremiah is arrested and put on trial (verses 7-15).
3. The prophet is released (verses 16-24).

It is surprising that the people and the officials defended Jeremiah against the hatred of the false prophets and priests. The administrative leaders protected the prophet from the hostility of the spiritual leaders, the priests and prophets.

Chapter 26 highlights several principles that help us understand God's character and His will for people:

1.     God expects full loyalty and obedience from people:
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand in the courtyard of the Lord’s house and speak to all the people of the towns of Judah who come to worship in the house of the Lord. Tell them everything I command you; do not omit a word.’” (verse 2)
A servant sent by God with a message must speak only what God commands.

2.     If a person repents, God forgives:
“Perhaps they will listen, and each will turn from their evil ways. Then I will relent and not inflict on them the disaster I was planning because of the evil they have done.” (verse 3)
God knows that we cannot undo yesterday’s sins, but we can use today to repent of them.

3.     Disobedience interrupts one’s relationship with God:
“But if you do not listen to me and follow my law, which I have set before you, and if you do not listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I have sent to you again and again though you have not listened, then I will make this house like Shiloh and this city a curse among all the nations of the earth.” (verses 4-6)

4.     People refuse to let even God tell them they are wrong:
“The priests, the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speak these words in the house of the Lord. But as soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded him to say, the priests, the prophets, and all the people seized him and said, ‘You must die! Why do you prophesy in the Lord’s name that this house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate and deserted?’ And all the people crowded around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.” (verses 7-9)
Because they refused to accept the message, they took their anger out on the messenger. The priests, prophets, and leaders united against Jeremiah with the intent to kill him.

5.     A child raised by responsible parents will become a person of character:
“Furthermore, Ahikam son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, and so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.” (verse 24)
Shaphan, the father of Ahikam, was the royal secretary of King Josiah who found the Book of the Law in the Temple of the Lord, which had been abandoned and closed (2 Kings 22:3-13).
