Joi, 16 noiembrie 2023, 2 Regi 4:1-44 – Văduva prorocului și femeia din Sunem

Acest capitol vorbește despre interacțiunea lui Elisei cu două femei evreice. Prima era văduvă, săraca, avea câțiva copii și multe datorii. Numele ei nu este precizat. A doua femeie era căsătorită, bogată, însă nu avea copii. Ea este poreclită după numele localității în care trăia.

Prima femeie a cerut ajutor lui Elisei, iar celei de-a doua Elisei s-a oferit să o ajute. Diferit de lucrarea lui Ilie, Elisei este folosit de Dumnezeu mai mult în împlinirea unor nevoi personale, ca și în cazul acestor două femei.

Femeia văduvă a apelat la Elisei pentru ca soțul ei, înainte să moară, împrumutase o sumă mare de bani. Femeia era săracă, avea o casă de copii și nu avea posibilitatea să plătească datoria omului bogat din sat. Câte femei văduve în această perioadă sunt singure, datoare și pline de amărăciune!

Cel mai probabil, întâmplarea aceasta a avut loc într-un oraș dintre orașele unde erau școli ale profeților: Ghilgal, Betel sau Ierihon. Dumnezeu a făcut o minune prin Elisei și problema femeii a fost rezolvată.

Sunt câțiva pași în procesul acestei minuni, vrednici de a fi remarcați:

1)         Această femeie nevoiașă a apelat la ,,omul lui Dumnezeu”. Oamenii nu mai au încredere în religie, însă în momentele lor de criză se uita după omul lui Dumnezeu.

2)         Elisei a invitat-o să folosească ce avea – ,,un vas de untdelemn”. De obicei, El se folosește de ce avem, chiar dacă ceea ce avem este așa de puțin.

3)         După ce copiii au adus vasele împrumutate de la vecini, femeia și copiii au intrat în casă și au închis ușa. Această mamă și-a expus copiii miracolului divin. Ei au văzut cu ochii lor cum puținul untdelemn din casă se face atât de mult încât toate vasele aduse de ei s-au umplut.

4)         Ea a mers din nou la omul lui Dumnezeu ca să mulțumească. Regula omeniei spune că cine spune ,,te rog frumos” trebuie să spună și ,,mulțumesc”. Elisei a sfătuit-o să-și plătească datoria și banii rămași să fie folosiți pentru întreținerea familiei (vers 7).

O femeie atât de simplă a fost ascultată și ajutată de un Dumnezeu atât de mare! 

Cea de-a doua minune a avut loc în Sunem, localitate prin care profetul trecea deseori. În acest oraș exista o familie bogată. Soția era o femeie foarte credincioasă și, din respect pentru Dumnezeu, s-a sfătuit cu soțul ei să construiască o cameră pe acoperișul casei lor, unde să-l cazeze pe Elisei, ,,omul lui Dumnezeu”. Drept recunoștință, Elisei a avut intenția să facă un bine acestei familii, însă sunamita a refuzat politicoasă.

Aflând de la Ghehazi că acești doi soți nu au copii, Elisei s-a rugat lui Dumnezeu. Sunamita a rămas însărcinata și a născut un băiețel: ,,În bunătatea Ta, Tu ne asculți prin minuni, Dumnezeul mântuirii noastre...” (Psalm 6:55).

Când avea câțiva anișori, în urma unei puternice dureri de cap, copilul a murit în brațele mamei lui. Fără să-i spună soțului că a murit copilul, sunamita a plecat la ,,omul lui Dumnezeu”. Și-a informat soțul că o să-l viziteze pe Elisei, însă nu i-a spus motivul vizitei.

Profetul a aflat despre moartea copilului și, la rugămintea mamei îndurerate, Elisei și Ghehazi au venit la familia din Sunem. Elisei s-a rugat întinzându-se peste trupul inert al copilului și acesta a înviat: ,,Tu asculți rugăciunea, de aceea toți oamenii vor veni la Tine” (Psalm 65:2).

Iată dar, Dumnezeu, în harul Său, ascultă și pe sărac, și pe bogat! Slavă lui Dumnezeu! Capitolul se încheie cu prezentarea a două minuni, ambele făcute cu fiii prorocilor. Elisei a vizitat fiii procilor la Ghilgal și l-a rugat pe Ghehazi să pregătească o mâncare. Unul dintre profeți a ieșit pe câmp să aducă niște verdețuri și a adus și niște castraveți sălbatici care s-au dovedit a fi otrăvitori. Dumnezeu a făcut o minune prin Elisei și ciorba a devenit bună de mâncat. Mai târziu, un om din Baal-Salisa a adus 20 de pâini de orz, însă la școala prorocilor erau peste 100 de bărbați. Elisei s-a rugat cu credință și Dumnezeu a înmulțit pâinea.

Urmează să ne rugăm și vom începe prin a-I mulțumi Domnului că ne ascultă rugăciunile și ne împlinește nevoile. Apoi vom continua să ne rugăm și vom cere Domnului încrederea de a ne baza pe promisiunile Sale și credința de a aștepta ca El să ne răspundă prin minuni. Zestrea acestor experiențe se constituie în albumul nostru de amintiri.

Thursday, November 16, 2023: 2 Kings 4:1-44 – The Prophet’s Widow and the Woman from Shunem

This chapter talks about Elisha's interactions with two Hebrew women. The first was a widow, poor, with several children and many debts. Her name is not specified. The second woman was married, wealthy, but had no children. She is nicknamed after the name of the place where she lived.

The first woman asked Elisha for help, and to the second, Elisha offered his help. Different from the work of Elijah, Elisha is used by God more in fulfilling personal needs, as in the case of these two women.

The widow approached Elisha because her husband, before dying, had borrowed a large sum of money. The woman was poor, had a house full of children, and had no way to pay back the debt to the wealthy man in the village. How many widows during this time are alone, indebted, and full of bitterness!

This event likely took place in one of the cities where there were schools of the prophets: Gilgal, Bethel, or Jericho. God performed a miracle through Elisha, and the woman's problem was resolved.

There are several steps in the process of this miracle, worthy of note:

1)         This needy woman appealed to “the man of God.” People no longer have faith in religion, but in their moments of crisis, they look to the man of God.

2)         Elisha invited her to use what she had – “a jar of oil.” Usually, He uses what we have, even if what we have is so little.

3)         After the children brought the borrowed vessels from the neighbors, the woman and the children went inside and shut the door. This mother exposed her children to the divine miracle. They saw with their own eyes how the little oil in the house became so much that all the vessels they had brought ere filled.

4)         She went to the man of God to give thanks. The rule of courtesy says that whoever says “please” should also say “thank you.” Elisha advised her to pay off the debt and use the remaining money to support the family (verse 7).

Such a simple woman was listened to and helped by such a great God!

The second miracle took place in Shunem, a town the prophet often passed through. In this city, there was a wealthy family. The wife was a very faithful woman, and out of respect for God, she consulted with her husband to build a room on the roof of their house, where they could accommodate Elisha, “the man of God.” In gratitude, Elisha intended to do good for this family, but the Shunammite politely refused.

Learning from Gehazi that these two spouses had no children, Elisha prayed to God. The Shunammite became pregnant and gave birth to a boy: “In Your kindness, You listen to us through miracles, the God of our salvation…” (Psalm 65:11).

When the boy was a few years old, he died in his mother's arms after a severe headache. Without telling her husband that the child had died, the Shunammite went to “the man of God.” She informed her husband that she was going to visit Elisha, but she did not tell him the reason for the visit.

The prophet learned about the child's death, and at the grieving mother's request, Elisha and Gehazi came to the family in Shunem. Elisha prayed, stretching himself over the lifeless body of the child, and the child was revived: “You who answer prayer, to you all people will come” (Psalm 65:2).

Thus, God, in His grace, listens to both the poor and the rich! Glory to God! The chapter concludes with the presentation of two miracles, both made with the sons of the prophets. Elisha visited the sons of the prophets at Gilgal and asked Gehazi to prepare a meal. One of the prophets went out into the field to gather some herbs and brought back some wild gourds which turned out to be poisonous. God performed a miracle through Elisha, and the stew became edible. Later, a man from Baal-shalishah brought 20 barley loaves, but at the school of the prophets, there were over 100 men. Elisha prayed with faith, and God multiplied the bread.

We are ready to pray, and we will start by thanking the Lord for hearing our prayers and fulfilling our needs. Then we will continue to pray and ask the Lord for the confidence to rely on His promises and the faith to wait for Him to answer us through miracles.
