Marți, 16 ianuarie 2024: 2 Cronici 11:1-23 – Măsurile luate de Roboam

Roboam a format o armată din o sută optzeci de mii de soldați din semințiile Iuda și Beniamin și a vrut să supună cu forța cele zece seminții din nord care și-au declarat independența. Dumnezeu a vorbit prin profetul Semaia lui Roboam și i-a spus să nu meargă la război împotriva fraților lor pentru că dezbinarea împărăției face parte din planul Său (v. 2-4).

Dumnezeu a rânduit această divizare ca urmare a idolatriei lui Solomon (1 Regi 11:11-13; 29-39). Regele Solomon, un om așa de înțelept, un rege așa de neînțelept!

Roboam a renunțat la ideea de război și a fortificat cincisprezece cetăți din jurul lui Iuda, transformându-le în adevărate fortărețe, dotate cu armament și provizii de hrană (v. 5-12).

Preoții și leviții din Israel s-au mutat în Iuda pentru că regele Ieroboam din Israel a pus preoți nelegitimi în slujba sfântă.

Asemenea bunicului său, David, și tatălui său, Solomon, Roboam a practicat poligamia, având optsprezece soții și șaizeci de țiitoare (v. 18-19). Roboam l-a ținut lângă el pe fiul său, Abia, ca succesor al său la tron, împrăștiindu-i pe ceilalți fii cu anumite slujbe în țară.

Vom mulțumi Domnului și pentru lecția de viață pe care o desprindem din capitolul de față, potrivit căruia tot ce face un om în viață are consecințe care vor apărea mai devreme sau mai târziu. Ne vom ruga lui Dumnezeu să ne îndrume pe mijlocul cărării neprihănirii, să ne ferească de extreme și Duhul Său să Se odihnească peste noi și casele noastre.

Tuesday, January 16, 2024: 2 Chronicles 11:1-23 – Rehoboam’s Actions

Rehoboam formed an army of one hundred eighty thousand soldiers from the tribes of Judah and Benjamin and wanted to forcibly subdue the ten northern tribes that had declared their independence. God spoke through the prophet Shemaiah to Rehoboam and told him not to go to war against their brothers because the division of the kingdom was part of His plan (v. 2-4).

God ordained this division as a result of Solomon’s idolatry (1 Kings 11:11-13; 29-39). King Solomon, such a wise man, yet such an unwise king!

Rehoboam abandoned the idea of war and fortified fifteen cities around Judah, turning them into true fortresses, equipped with weapons and food supplies (v. 5-12). Priests and Levites from Israel moved to Judah because King Jeroboam of Israel had appointed illegitimate priests for the holy service.

Like his grandfather David and his father Solomon, Rehoboam practiced polygamy, having eighteen wives and sixty concubines (v. 18-19). Rehoboam kept his son Abijah close to him as his successor to the throne, while distributing his other sons with various duties throughout the country.

We will thank the Lord for the life lesson we learn from this chapter, which is that everything a person does in life has consequences that will appear sooner or later. We will pray to God to guide us on the path of righteousness, to keep us from extremes and for His Spirit to rest upon us and our homes.
