Sâmbătă, 15 iulie 2023, Iosua 7:1-26 – Nelegiuirea lui Acan

Ierihonul se afla sub blestem, condamnat la distrugere (6:18-19). Tot ce avea viată trebuia omorât și orice lucru trebuia pus în vistieria Domnului. Nici un soldat nu avea permisiunea să ia pradă de război. A existat totuși o excepție. Acan a luat din lucrurile date spre nimicire.

Iosua nu a știut nimic de păcatul lui Acan și a trimis spioni să cerceteze cetatea Ai. Spionii s-au întors aducând un raport ireal. Au spus că cetatea este mică, soldații sunt puțini la număr și poate fi cucerită cu două sau trei mii de oameni. Deși era mai mică decât Ierihonul, cetatea Ai era mai bine fortificată și soldații erau mai bine pregătiți.

Iosua a trimis doar trei mii de soldați, însă au fost imediat înfrânți și poporul Israel a fost speriat și îngrozit. În timp ce Iosua era măcinat de întrebări fără răspuns, Dumnezeu i-a spus: ,,Scoală-te! Pentru ce stai culcat astfel pe fața ta? Israel a păcătuit…” (v. 10-11). Dumnezeu a pronunțat sentința: ,,Eu nu voi mai fi cu voi, dacă nu nimiciți ce este dat spre nimicire din mijlocul vostru. Scoală-te, sfințește poporul.” (v. 12-13).

Folosind metoda sorțului, Acan a fost identificat ca fiind vinovat. În procesul lung al identificării, Acan a avut suficient timp să recunoască, însă nu a recunoscut. După ce a fost confruntat a recunoscut, însă nu și-a exprimat regretul pentru cele întâmplate. Etapele păcatului lui Acan au fost: ,,A văzut, a poftit și a luat”. Aceiași pași i-a făcut și Eva în Eden (Geneza 3:6). Acan și familia lui au fost uciși în valea Acor pentru că au luat din lucrurile date spre nimicire.

În rugăciunea acestei dimineți Îi vom mulțumi Domnului că ne-a ferit de cădere. Vom continua rugăciunea cerând puterea de a ne înfrâna de la păcat. Păcatul este rușinea popoarelor (Proverbe 14:34).

Saturday, July 15, 2023: Joshua 7:1-26 – Achan’s Sin

Jericho was under a curse, doomed to destruction (6:18-19). All living things were to be killed, and everything was to be put in the treasury of the Lord’s house. No soldier was allowed to take any spoils of war. However, there was an exception. Achan took from the things that were to be destroyed.

Joshua knew nothing of Achan’s sin and sent spies to investigate the city of Ai. The spies returned bringing an unrealistic report. They said that the city was small, the soldiers were few and it could be conquered with two or three thousand men. Although it was smaller than Jericho, the city of Ai was better fortified and its soldiers were better prepared.

Joshua sent only three thousand soldiers, but they were immediately defeated and the people of Israel were scared and terrified. While Joshua was tormented by unanswered questions, God told him: “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? Israel has sinned…” (v. 10-11). God pronounced the sentence: ” I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.

Go, consecrate the people.” (v. 12-13).

By casting lots, Achan was identified as guilty. In the long process of identification, Achan had enough time to confess, but he did not confess. After he was confronted, he confessed, but did not express regret for what he had done. The stages of Achan’s sin were: “He saw, he coveted, and he took“. The same steps were taken by Eve in Eden (Genesis 3:6). Achan and his family were killed in the Valley of Achor for taking from the things meant for destruction.

In this morning’s prayer, we will thank the Lord that He has protected us from falling. We will continue our prayer by asking for the strength to refrain from sin. Sin is the disgrace of nations (Proverbs 14:34).
