Vineri, 15 decembrie 2023, 1 Cronici 8:1-40 – Urmașii lui Beniamin și spița neamului lui Saul

Deși seminția lui Beniamin a fost prezentată foarte pe scurt în capitolul precedent, este reluată în capitolul de față datorită importanței lui Saul. Citind comparativ toate aceste nume de oameni în cărțile Geneza, Numeri și Cronici, acceptăm faptul că termenul ,,fiu” înseamnă, de multe ori, nepot sau chiar un descendent al unei generații.

Din acest capitol înțelegem că Beniamin a avut cinci fii (v. 1-2) și că celelalte liste au fost selective. Linia genealogică este următoarea: Ieiel (v. 29), Ner (v. 33), Chiș (v. 33), Saul (v. 33). Este interesant să observăm faptul că, deși Saul nu a strălucit ca realizări și model de sfințenie, poziția lui de prim rege al monarhiei evreiești îi oferă prioritate.

Vom mulțumi acum lui Dumnezeu pentru Legile și rânduielile Sale, pentru toate lucrurile așezate de El în creație. Apoi, ne vom ruga Domnului să ne dea putere și înțelepciune să-i respectăm și să-i iubim pe oameni. Realizările regilor Iosia și Ezechia, reformele lor religioase și eliminarea idolatriei din țară pe care ei au făcut-o îi așază cu mult deasupra lui Saul, însă prioritatea acestuia este dată de faptul că a fost primul rege și a fost regele întregului Israel.

Să ne obișnuim să îi privim pe oameni prin prisma complexității ființei și activității lor, nu doar prin prisma unui eveniment, calitate sau defect. În felul acesta vom fi feriți să devenim (prea) subiectivi și poate chiar nedrepți. Mila biruiește judecata. Cât de mare nevoie am avut noi de mila lui Dumnezeu, la fel de mare nevoie au oamenii din jur de mila noastră. Mila biruiește judecata, sau judecata biruiește mila.

Friday, December 15, 2023: 1 Chronicles 8:1-40 – The Descendants of Benjamin and the Lineage of Saul

Although the tribe of Benjamin was briefly presented in the previous chapter, it is revisited in this chapter due to Saul’s importance. Reading all these names of people in the books of Genesis, Numbers, and Chronicles comparatively, we accept that the term “son” often means a grandson or even a descendant of a generation.

From this chapter, we understand that Benjamin had five sons (v. 1-2) and that the other lists were selective. The genealogical line is as follows: Jeiel (v. 29), Ner (v. 33), Kish (v. 33), Saul (v. 33). It is interesting to note that, although Saul did not shine in achievements and as a model of holiness, his position as the first king of the Jewish monarchy gives him priority.

We will now thank God for His Laws and ordinances, for all things set by Him in creation. Then, we will pray to the Lord to give us strength and wisdom to respect and love people. The achievements of Kings Josiah and Hezekiah – their religious reforms, and the elimination of idolatry from the country – place them much above Saul, but his priority comes from the fact that he was the first king and was the king of all Israel.

Let us get used to looking at people through the prism of the complexity of their being and activities, not just through the prism of an event, quality, or flaw. In this way, we will be protected from becoming (too) subjective and perhaps even unfair. Mercy triumphs over judgment. Just as we have needed God's mercy, so do the people around us need our mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment, or judgment triumphs over mercy.
