Marți, 14 noiembrie 2023, 2 Regi 2:1-25 – Dumnezeu îl ridică pe Ilie la cer

După plecarea lui Ilie la cer, începe lucrarea de slujire a lui Elisei care este introdusă cu putere de o serie de minuni pe care Dumnezeu le face cu el. Elisei, auzind că Domnul îl va răpi la cer pe Ilie, și-a propus să fie cu orice preț alături de mentorul său până la capăt. Ilie parcă a cunoscut dorința ucenicului său, fiindcă de trei ori l-a invitat să rămână pe loc, în timp ce el urma să plece în călătorie – prima oară la Betel, a doua oară la Ierihon și a treia oară la Iordan. De fiecare dată Elisei i-a dat același răspuns: ,,Viu este Domnul și viu este sufletul că nu te voi părăsi” (vers. 2, 4, 6).

După ce au trecut de Betel și Ierihon au ajuns la Iordan. Ilie și-a făcut mantaua sul și a lovit apa Iordanului cu ea. Apa s-a despărțit într-o parte și în alta și ei au trecut ca pe uscat. Când au ajuns pe malul celălalt, Ilie l-a întrebat pe Elisei: ,,Ce vrei să-ți fac înainte să fiu răpit de la tine?” (vers. 9). Mai tânărul său ucenic a cerut o îndoită măsura din duhul său. Ilie i-a răspuns: ,,Dacă mă vei vedea când voi fi răpit de la tine, așa ți se va întâmpla.”

Fermitatea lui Elisei de a fi permanent în preajma lui Ilie a fost o dovadă a chemării sale ca înlocuitor al lui Ilie, dar și o dovadă a dorinței sale de a-L sluji pe Dumnezeu asemenea mentorului său, Ilie. Este interesant faptul că Ilie condiționează împlinirea dorinței lui Elisei printr-o atenție neîntreruptă cu privire la surprinderea luării sale la cer.

Dintr-o dată s-a petrecut o minune: un car de foc și niște cai de foc i-au despărțit pe Ilie de Elisei. Un vârtej puternic de vânt l-a luat pe Ilie la cer. Fiind cu ochii pe Ilie, Elisei a văzut scena și striga: ,,Părinte! Carul lui Israel și călărimea lui” (vers. 12). Elisei a lovit apa Iordanului cu mantaua lui Ilie și apa s-a despărțit. Atunci a înțeles că puterea Domnului care a lucrat prin Ilie este acum peste el.

Datorită incredibilității evenimentului supranatural în cadrul căruia Dumnezeu l-a luat la cer pe Ilie, fiii prorocilor și dregătorul Obadia au crezut că Dumnezeu l-a dus pe profet într-un alt loc (1 Regi 18:12). După trei zile de căutări, s-au întors la Elisei, acceptând faptul că Dumnezeu l-a luat la cer.

Faptul că fiii prorocilor i s-au închinat lui Elisei dovedește că au înțeles transferul de autoritate și putere de la Ilie la ucenicul său. Nu peste mult timp, oamenii care conduceau cetatea Ierihon au venit la Elisei și s-au plâns de faptul că apa a devenit rea și atunci când este folosită la irigat plantele se usucă. Asemănarea dintre poluarea apei și poluarea spirituală a israelienilor este ușor de înțeles.

Elisei a fost călăuzit de Dumnezeu să arunce o farfurie cu sare în apă și să se roage pentru vindecarea apelor. Dumnezeu a onorat rugăciunea profetului și poporul a primit confirmarea că Elisei a rămas să slujească în ,,duhul și puterea lui Ilie”.

Elisei a plecat din Ierihon spre Betel și pe drum un grup de adolescenți/tineri l-au batjocorit pe profet. Se pare că nu a fost un grup de copii inocenți care s-au jucat. Foarte probabil că era un grup de peste 42 de tineri (vers. 24) care făceau parte din familiile prorocilor lui Baal și au organizat un protest împotriva promovării lui Elisei, având intenția să dezonoreze pe Dumnezeu și pe slujitorul Său. Doi urși au ieșit din pădure și au sfâșiat 42 din grupul acestor tineri. Atacul urșilor nu a fost întâmplător, ci a fost o pedeapsă pentru atitudinea lor. Dacă erau copii care s-au jucat, cel mai probabil că Dumnezeu nu îngăduia masacrul acesta.

Este dimineață, suntem înaintea Domnului și urmează să Îi mulțumim lui Dumnezeu pentru această atitudine de a-i căuta pe oamenii păcătoși și de a-i atrage cu dragoste spre Sine. Apoi, vom continua rugăciunea cerând Domnului să ne dea putere prin Duhul Sfânt pentru ca slujirea noastră să poarte această marcă a prezenței lui Dumnezeu.

Tuesday, 14 November 2023: 2 Kings 2:1-25 – God Takes Elijah Up to Heaven

After Elijah was taken up to heaven, Elisha's ministry began powerfully with a series of miracles performed by God through him. Elisha, having heard that the Lord would take Elijah up to heaven, resolved to be by his mentor's side to the very end. It seemed Elijah knew his disciple's desire, because he asked him three times to stay put while he himself was to go on a journey—first to Bethel, then to Jericho, and lastly to the Jordan. Each time Elisha responded: “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you” (verses 2, 4, 6).

After passing Bethel and Jericho, they arrived at the Jordan. Elijah rolled up his cloak and struck the water of the Jordan with it. The water divided to the left and right, and they crossed on dry ground. Once on the other bank, Elijah asked Elisha, “What can I do for you before I am taken from you?” (verse 9). The younger disciple asked for a double portion of his spirit. Elijah replied, “If you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.“

Elisha's determination to be constantly by Elijah's side was proof of his calling to be Elijah's successor, and of his desire to serve God as his mentor Elijah did. Interestingly, Elijah made the fulfillment of Elisha's request contingent upon his undivided attention to the event of his being taken up to heaven.

Suddenly, a miracle occurred: a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated Elijah from Elisha. A powerful whirlwind took Elijah up to heaven. Keeping his eyes on Elijah, Elisha saw the scene and cried out, “My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” (verse 12). Elisha struck the Jordan water with Elijah's cloak, and it divided. Then he understood that the power of the Lord that had worked through Elijah was now upon him.

Because of the incredible nature of the supernatural event in which God took Elijah up to heaven, the sons of the prophets and the steward Obadiah believed that God had transported the prophet to another place (1 Kings 18:12). After three days of searching, they returned to Elisha, accepting the fact that God had taken Elijah to heaven.

The fact that the sons of the prophets bowed down to Elisha shows that they understood the transfer of authority and power from Elijah to his disciple. Not long after, the leaders of the city of Jericho came to Elisha and complained that the water had become bad and when used for irrigating plants, they withered. The parallel between the water pollution and the spiritual pollution of the Israelites is easy to understand.

God guided Elisha to throw a bowl of salt into the water and pray for the healing of the waters. God honored the prophet's prayer, and the people received confirmation that Elisha remained to serve in “the spirit and power of Elijah.”

Elisha left Jericho for Bethel, and on the way, a group of youths mocked the prophet. It appears it was not a group of innocent children playing. It was very likely a group of over 42 young people (verse 24) who were from the families of the prophets of Baal and had organized a protest against the promotion of Elisha, intending to dishonor God and His servant. Two bears came out of the woods and mauled 42 of these youths. The bear attack was not an accident, but a punishment for their attitudes. If they were just children playing, God would most likely not have allowed this massacre.

It is morning, we are before the Lord and we are about to thank God that he seeks sinners and draw them to Himself with love. Then, we will continue praying, asking the Lord to give us strength through the Holy Spirit so that our ministry may carry this mark of God's presence.
